FORT LAUDERDALE – The 12th annual South Florida Construction Career Days (CCD) is returning to the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds in Davie on Tuesday, Oct. 22 & Wednesday, Oct. 23. The event is sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Florida Transportation Builders’ Association and the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration.
CCD provides high school and career/training students in South Florida the opportunity to learn about careers in the highway and bridge industry in a hands-on learning lab setting. Over 2,000 students from 54 schools in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Hendry counties are expected to attend this year’s event. Schools pre-registered to attend one of the two days of the event.
The students will experience over 40 learning labs presented by professionals from 85 South Florida transportation industry partners including construction contractors, engineering firms, communication firms, equipment vendors and colleges.
The labs cover such diverse subjects as computer-based bridge design, GPS surveying, programming and operating Intelligent Transportation Systems and asphalt mix design. In the Career Center students will learn resume & job application preparation and practice their job interview skills. Heavy Equipment labs will allow students to operate equipment, such as backhoes and bucket trucks, and power tools that are commonly used on road and bridge construction projects.
FDOT will be tweeting from the event. Follow us @MyFDOT_SEFL. Or visit our website at www.ccdfl.com and click on South Florida.
