Emergency bridge repair on southbound I-75 at Ponce de León overpass
(1.5 miles north of Sumter Boulevard, which is mile marker 182)
in Sarasota County
The overpass is closed to traffic until repair work is completed in about 7 to 10 days. Crews have removed the damaged beam and will set the new beam tonight/overnight. Motorists should expect southbound interstate lanes to close at 8 p.m. tonight and reopen at 8 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday). Law enforcement will be on site to assist motorists. A detour is required for the work:
· Southbound traffic will exit I-75 at River Road (exit 191) and travel west on River Road to southbound US 41.
· Motorists will proceed approximately nine miles to Sumter Boulevard, turn east and continue to the southbound entrance ramp onto I-75 (exit 182).
Crews’ next work activity will be to pour the new deck on the Ponce de León overpass on Sunday night/overnight. Work will be done from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and requires a detour for southbound interstate traffic (see above).
Other work preparing for and following up these activities may require periodic nighttime southbound lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Motorists are urged to PLAN EXTRA TRAVEL TIME in this area at night. PLEASE USE CAUTION and DRIVE WITH CARE.
