Palm Beach County – Palm Beach County traffic will be affected this week by ongoing construction projects and maintenance work, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) officials report. Weather permitting;closures will be in effect on I-95 and in other areas throughout Palm Beach County for construction activities.

I-95 Corridor Projects:

Palm Beach County Traffic Signal Hanger Retrofit

Construction on this project began Sunday, July 28, 2013, in Palm Beach County. Work consists of retrofitting existing traffic signals with new pivotal hangers at various intersections throughout Palm Beach County. The project costs an estimated $1.3 million. The work is being performed by Traffic Control Devices, Inc. and is expected to be completed winter 2014.

Restrictions: Okeechobee Boulevard, at Jog Road in the City of West Palm Beach, will have rolling lane closures, with one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Okeechobee Boulevard, at the entrance to Florida’s Turnpike in the City of West Palm Beach, will have rolling lane closures, with one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Forest Hill Boulevard, at State Road 7 in the Village of Wellington, will have rolling lane closures, with one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Forest Hill Boulevard, at Haverhill Road in the City of West Palm Beach, will have rolling lane closures, with one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Lake Worth Road, at the entrance to Florida’s Turnpike in Lake Worth, will have rolling lane closures, with one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Boynton Beach Boulevard, at Military Trail in the City of Boynton Beach, will have rolling lane closures, with one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Boynton Beach Boulevard, at Congress Avenue in the City of Boynton Beach, will have rolling lane closures, with one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. West Atlantic Avenue, at Military Trail in Delray Beach, will have rolling lane closures, with one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Palmetto Park Road, at Powerline Road in the City of Boca Raton, will have rolling lane closures, with one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Southern Boulevard, at Forest Hill Boulevard in the Village of Wellington and the Village of Royal Palm Beach, will have rolling lane closures, with one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning.

I-95 Interchange at Spanish River Boulevard

Construction on this 2.5-mile project began Monday, January 13, 2014, in the City of Boca Raton. Work consists of constructing a new interchange at Spanish River Boulevard and I-95, widening Spanish River Boulevard west of FAU Boulevard, constructing 13 bridges between Spanish River Boulevard and Yamato Road, signalized intersection improvements and the addition of auxiliary lanes on Yamato Road, and sound wall construction along Yamato Road and on the east side of I-95 north of Yamato Road. The project costs an estimated $67 million. The work is being performed by Astaldi Construction and is expected to be completedfall 2016.

 

Restrictions: All lanes are open.

Groundbreaking Ceremony:On Friday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m., a groundbreaking ceremony will be held east of I-95 on Spanish River Boulevard. The event is located on the north side of the road, across from the FAU Research & Development Park, just west of the existing driveway into the former Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) property. I-95 Noise Wall Installation from north of Lake Ida to south of Woolbright Road

Construction on this 1-mile project began Monday, January 6, 2014, in the City of Boynton Beach. Work consists of installation of a ground and shoulder mounted noise wall, overhead sign, guardrail, drainage and sod. The project will cost an estimated $2.3 million. The work is being performed by Construct Group Corpand is expected to be completed fall 2014 

Restrictions: All lanes are open.  

Southern Palm Beach County Projects:

 

Glades Road (CR 808) from State Road 7 to Lyons Road

Construction on this 1.5-mile project began Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in Boca Raton. Work consists of repaving the roadway, signalization upgrades, mast arm installation, curb, sidewalk, and guardrail upgrades, and sign, landscape and irrigation improvements. The project costs an estimated $2.4 million. The work is being performed by Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc. and is expected to be completed fall 2014.

Restrictions: One lane will be closed, westbound, 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., with one lane closed, eastbound, 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday through spring 2014.

Central Palm Beach County Projects: 

Lantana Road (CR 812) from Sunset Road to east of I-95

Construction on this 0.6-mile project began Monday, July 8, 2013, in the Town of Lantana. Work consists of repaving the roadway, widening the I-95 overpass bridge, and replacing lighting and traffic railing. The project costs an estimated $6.1 million. The work is being performed by Zep Construction and is expected to be completed spring 2015.

Restrictions:One lane of Lantana Road will be closed, in each direction, 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Due to construction activities I-95 ramp shoulders are closed and pedestrian traffic on Lantana Road is shifted to the south side.

 

Jog Road at Southern Boulevard (SR 80) Bridge widening over C-51 Canal from Gun Club Road to Wallis Road

Construction on this 0.5-mile project began Friday, July 26, 2013, in the City of West Palm Beach. Work consists of widening the Jog Road Bridge over the C-51 canal, milling & resurfacing, signage, signalization upgrades, irrigation, drainage improvements and installation of new sidewalks and ramps to meet ADA standards. The project costs an estimated $2.4 million. The work is being performed by Weekly Asphalt Paving, Inc. and is expected to be completed summer 2014.

Restrictions: The outside southbound lane of Jog Road is closed through spring 2014. The right outside turn lane of the Southern Boulevard to Jog Road eastbound ramp is closed through spring 2014. One southbound lane of Jog Road may be closed, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Flagler Memorial Bridge Replacement Project

This 0.66-mile Design/Build project includes replacing the existing bascule (draw) bridge with a new bascule bridge connecting the Town of Palm Beach and the City of West Palm Beach over the Lake Worth Lagoon and the Intracoastal Waterway. The Flagler Drive overpass will be replaced with an “at-grade” intersection. New lighting, pedestrian features, traffic signals, drainage, and landscaping are also included. The Design/Build team for this project is PCL Civil Constructers and Hardesty & Hanover. New Millennium Engineering, Inc. provides Construction Engineering and Inspection Services on behalf of FDOT. Active construction began onSept. 10, 2012, and will last until fall 2016.  The estimated construction cost is $94.2 million. 

Restriction: One lane is open in each direction on the Flagler Memorial Bridge and the sidewalk on the north side of the bridge is open for pedestrians. All westbound traffic exits the bridge at the Flagler Drive exit ramp.

Restriction:  Drivers might experience brief, intermittent delays while trucks enter and exit the work zone. Please use caution when traveling through the area.

Restriction: The ramp from northbound Flagler Drive to the eastbound Flagler Memorial Bridge is permanently closed. Drivers going north on Flagler Drive who want to go east over the bridge will go west on Banyan Boulevard to N. Dixie Highway, go north on N. Dixie Highway to N. Quadrille Boulevard, and go east on N. Quadrille Boulevard over the bridge.

Marine Restrictions: The Flagler Memorial Bridge opens every hour at 15 minutes past the hour, as needed, for marine traffic, except at 8:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.  Information is published in the Coast Guard Local Notice to Mariners at www.navcen.uscg.gov.

Northern Palm Beach County Projects:

Beeline Highway (SR 710) from West of Congress Avenue to West of Australian Avenue

This 0.82-mile resurfacing project began Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, in the City of Riviera Beach. Work includes widening the existing roadway from two to four lanes, installation of bike lanes, curb and gutter, sidewalks, signalization, lighting, landscaping, signing and pavement markings, and resurfacing. The work is being performed by Ranger Construction Industries, Inc., and is expected to be completed spring 2014. The estimated construction cost is $12.2 million.

Restrictions:Traffic on SR 710 is shifted to one lane in each direction in the outside lanes while work is being performed in the inside lanes and median.

US 1 (SR 5) from South of 13th Street to Silver Beach Road

This 1.4-mile resurfacing project began Monday, July 30, 2012, in the City of Riviera Beach. Work includes milling and resurfacing the existing roadway, drainage and water main installation throughout the project, curb and sidewalk replacement, upgrades to pedestrian and traffic signalization, signage upgrades, and sidewalk and driveway ramp installation to meet ADA standards. The work is being performed by Gibbs and Register, Inc., and is expected to be completed winter 2014. The estimated construction cost is $12.8 million. 

Restrictions: Beginning Monday, Feb. 10, Silver Beach Road will be closed east at the US 1 intersection through Friday, Feb. 14, for utility construction. For northbound access to US 1, traffic will be detoured from Lake Shore Avenue west on 34th Street to US 1. For southbound access to Silver Beach Road, traffic will be detoured from Lake Shore Avenue west on Foresteria Drive through Cypress Drive to US 1. Paving will begin Monday, Feb. 10 on the east side of US 1, from 12th Street north to Blue Heron Boulevard, with brief intermittent closures at the side streets. Traffic is shifted to one lane in each direction on the west side of US 1 from 12th Street to Silver Beach Road. Access to businesses on the west side of US 1 will be available via Avenues C to the east and Avenue E to the west.  Access to businesses on the east side of US 1 is provided via a business route detour utilizing Avenue A and C to the east and Avenue E to the west.

Western Palm Beach County Projects:

SR 80 Bridge Rehab, from NW 2nd Avenue to SE 3rd Avenue, South Bay

Construction on this 0.1-mile project began Monday, July 29, 2013, in the City of South Bay. Work consists of sidewalk widening and removing existing structures and installing new structures; Beams, deck, bearings, anchor, partial deck, diaphragms, hinge assembly, and painting of new steel beams and existing steel beams. This project costs an estimated $1 million. The work is being performed by Cobalt Construction Group and is expected to be completed summer 2014.

 Restrictions: Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the south side of SR 80 through spring 2014.

Maintenance, Utility and Permit Closures: 

Restrictions:There is a double lane shift to the east side of the roadway on SE 5th Avenue, from SE 8th Street to SE 3rd Street, and NE 3rd Street to NE 4th Street, in the City of Delray Beach, for storm drainage installation and curb and gutter work. Traffic will be shifted and detoured at NE 2nd Street for storm drain and hydrant work. NE/SE 6th Avenue will have a lane shift from SE 8th Street to SE 4th Street for storm water and curb and gutter work on the west side. Side streets will be detoured as this work progresses. SE 8th Street to SE 6thStreet will have pavement repairs and side street detours. There will also be a lane reduction from NE 2ndStreet to NE 4th Street for storm drain work.  Restrictions: The PGA Boulevard Bridge, over the Intracoastal Waterway in the City of Palm Beach Gardens, will have one eastbound lane closed, 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., with one westbound lane closed, 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 8, for lock inspection.
