Inclement weather prompts JU to move Commencement
for Saturday, May 3, to First Baptist Church auditorium
With the strong likelihood of inclement weather and historically high expected attendance , Jacksonville University has decided to move its 2014 Spring Commencement indoors on Saturday, May 3, to the main auditorium of First Baptist Church at 119 W. Beaver St. in downtown Jacksonville.
The ceremony will begin at the originally scheduled time of 9:30 a.m. The venue is large enough to accommodate all of JU’s nearly 900 graduates, family, friends and guests, and tickets will not be required.
First Baptist will offer plenty of free parking in its Garages 2, 3 and 4, which are along Beaver Street on either side of the main auditorium.
Armen Keteyian, an 11-time Emmy Award winner and one of the preeminent journalists of his generation, who is lead correspondent for “60 Minutes Sports” on Showtime, contributing correspondent for CBS News’ “60 Minutes” and former chief investigative correspondent for CBS News, will be awarded an honorary degree and is the ceremony’s keynote speaker.
The ceremony will be live-streamed at www.ju.edu/commencement.
