DISTRICT ONE ROADWATCH REPORT FOR NORTHERN SIX COUNTIES #22
FOR WEEK OF June 1, 2014

 

HARDEE COUNTY

SR 64 from Pear Street to east of Cracker Trail (Zolfo Springs): Construction project: Traffic on SR 64, just east of US 17, shifted north onto the new lanes. There are no lane closures scheduled. This is a drainage improvement project, which includes changing the elevation of the roadway in places. It also includes building a gravity wall to support the new roadway, installing new curb, gutters and guardrail and paving.

 

HIGHLANDS COUNTY 

US 27 from Highlands Avenue to Sebring Parkway: Maintenance project: Crews will be shaping the ditches and shoulders from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 27 through Thursday, May 29. No lane closures are scheduled, but use caution and watch for trucks and equipment entering and leaving the highway. 

US 27 from Bramblewood Road to Martin Road:  Maintenance permit project: Expect intermittent northbound lane closures during the day while utility crews replace poles along the east side of US 27 through early June 2014. Work will begin at Bramblewood Road and proceed north. Motorists should use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.

US 27 between Lake Jackson and Little Lake Jackson: Bridge maintenance: Expect intermittent daytime lane closures on the northbound bridge from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 21 and Thursday, May 22 while crews repair bridge joints.

 

MANATEE COUNTY 

I-75 Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Satellite Traffic Management Center: Construction project: Work continues to install fiber optics communications cable and transmission equipment, closed-circuit television cameras, and roadside sensors along 56 miles of I-75 from the Sarasota/Manatee County line (University Parkway) to the I-275 interchange in Manatee County (near mile marker 228). During the week of Sunday, June 1, 2014, the contractor plans to continue testing fiber optic cable, electrical wire, pull boxes, cabinets and ITS devices on northbound and southbound I-75 between mile markers 213 and 228. Motorists should anticipate shoulder closures for this work. Motorists should use caution while traveling through construction zones. Scheduled completion is summer 2014.  The contractor is World Fiber Technologies, Inc.

I-75 over the Manatee River: Construction project: Crews are replacing the bridge fender system and navigational lighting under the bridge. There will be no impacts to the traffic on the bridge, as all work performed is beneath the bridge. Projected completion is spring 2014. Inland Construction and Equipment, Inc. is the contractor. 

US 301 from north of SR 70 to 51st Avenue East: Maintenance permit project: Crews are paving turn-lanes. Expect inside lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, June 6. Motorists should use caution while in the area.

US 41/BUS 41 from 19th Avenue to 18th Avenue and 19th Avenue at 16th Street Court West: Construction project: Crews are making drainage repairs on US 41/BUS 41 and on 19th Avenue West. Estimated completion is late spring 2014. Southern Road and Bridge, LLC is the contractor. 

US 41/BUS 41 from 9th Street West to 17th Street West: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, making sidewalk and drainage improvements, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Daytime and nighttime/overnight lane closures are expected. There will be no lane closures from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Expected project completion is summer 2014. The contractor is Superior Asphalt, Inc.

US 41 at SR 684 (Cortez Road): Construction project: Crews will reconstruct the intersection to enhance pedestrian access by reducing walking distance across the intersection. Crews will reconstruct corners of the intersection with new curb, handicap crosswalk ramps, and striping for new crosswalks. The contractor will replace existing traffic and pedestrian signals. To reduce delays to motorists, intersection reconstruction occurs Sunday through Thursday during nighttime/overnight hours. Motorists should use caution while in the area and expect possible delays. Expected project completion is spring 2014. The contractor is Superior Asphalt, Inc.

US 41 (Tamiami Trail) from the Sarasota/Manatee County Line north to 13th Avenue West: Maintenance contract project: Crews are working within the utility strips. Motorists should expect nighttime/overnight intermittent northbound and southbound outside lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. through the end of June, weather permitting. Pedestrians should expect sidewalk closures/detours throughout the duration of the work. Motorists should use caution while in the area and expect possible delays.

US 41 at the Bowlee Creek Bridge: Maintenance permit project: Crews are working on a forcemain. Motorist can expect northbound outside lane closure from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 5. Motorists should use caution while in the area and expect possible delays.

US 41 at 53rd Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are pouring new curb and gutter. Motorist should expect southbound outside lane closures from 9 p.m. each night to 5:30 a.m. each morning beginning Monday, June 9 through Thursday, June 12. Motorists should use caution while in the area and expect possible delays.

US 41/US 19 from 30th Avenue East to 25th Avenue East: Maintenance permit project: Crews are replacing overhead phone cables. Motorist should expect northbound outside lane closures overnight from 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 3 to 4 a.m. Wednesday, June 4. Motorists should use caution while in the area and expect possible delays.

SR 789/Gulf Drive from SR 684 to 28th Street: Maintenance permit project: Crews are replacing a power pole. Motorists should expect northbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, June 6.

SR 684/Cortez Road at the Cortez Bridge from east of Gulf Drive to west of 127th Street West: Construction project: Crews will work on the east side (Cortez) seawall. Work on this project includes general maintenance and repairs to the bridge span, beams, piling, seawall, and bridge tender house. Quinn Construction, Inc. is the contractor on this project. Expected completion is winter 2014/early 2015.

SR 64 from west of Carlton Arms Boulevard to west of Interstate 75:  Construction project: Improvements on this project include adding paved bike lanes, building curb and gutter with drainage swales, constructing sidewalk, planting landscaping, and replacing existing traffic signals with mast arms and concrete poles. The contractor is completing final punch list items. Motorists may experience temporary intermittent lane closures in these areas. Flaggers will be present as needed. Motorists should use caution and watch for construction workers in the construction zone. Expected completion is summer 2014. The contractor is Better Roads, Inc.

SR 64 at the Manatee River Bridge: Maintenance project: Crews are cleaning storm drains. Motorists should expect intermittent daytime lane closures at CR 675 while crews are working. Please use caution.

SR 64 from Perico Bay to Palma Sola Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, making sidewalk and drainage improvements, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Motorists can expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. throughout the duration of the project. Expected project completion is summer 2014. The contractor is AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, LLC.

SR 62 at CR 39: Construction project: Crews are constructing turn lanes and making drainage improvements. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures on SR 62 and CR 39 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the duration of the project. Estimated project completion is summer 2014. The Lane Construction Corporation is the contractor.

 

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY 

US 441 (North Parrott Avenue) from CR 68 East to 364th Street:  Maintenance contract: Crews will be cleaning the ditches. There are no lane closures scheduled. Motorist should use caution and watch for workers close to the road. 

SR 710 from SR 70 to the Martin County line: Maintenance project: Crews will be trimming trees on both sides of the road. No lane closures are scheduled, however, use caution and watch for workers close to the road.

SR 70 east of Okeechobee/NE 34th Avenue to Williams Road/NE 48th Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are relocating utilities along the south side of the road. No lane closures are scheduled, but use caution and watch for workers close to the road. 

SR 70 E from the Okeechobee city limits to NE 30th Avenue: Maintenance project: Crews are repairing the sidewalk on both sides of the roadway. No lane closures are scheduled, however, use caution and watch for workers close to the road.

POLK COUNTY

Interstate 4: Eastbound Exit Ramp at County Line Road and South Frontage Road: Construction project: Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures while crews remove and replace the existing asphalt. Motorists should use caution, watch for changes in the traffic pattern and be prepared to stop. Work on this project includes adding two right turn lanes to the east bound exit ramp, adding two left turn lanes on County Line Road turning onto South Frontage Road, adding signals at both intersections, placing signs, and removing and replacing the asphalt. Weather permitting; estimated completion is spring 2014. The contractor is Cone and Graham.

US 98 (SR 700/Bartow Road) from East Orange Street to East Lime Street: Maintenance permit project: Crews will be performing utility work. Expect southbound outside lane closures from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Use caution while traveling in the area, and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.

US 98 (Bartow Highway) at Skinner Street: Maintenance permit project: The outside southbound lane will be closed while crews prepare to install a sewer liner during the nighttime/overnight hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.

US 98 from CR 540A to SR 540 (Winter Lake Road): Construction project: Work continues to expand the roadway from four to six lanes. Motorists should expect northbound and/or southbound lane closures during the nighttime/overnight hours from 6:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. as crews install roadway drainage pipe, add drainage pipe beneath driveways and widen the roadway. Southbound traffic from Winter Lake Road to Clubhouse Road remains shifted onto newly constructed travel lanes. Motorists should use caution when driving through these areas. US 98 from North Socrum Loop Road to US 92: Maintenance contract project: Work on this project includes replacing cracked sidewalk and adding wheelchair accessible ramps, constructing curb, and replacing ditch pavement and deteriorated concrete. No lane closures are scheduled, but use caution and watch for workers close to the road. Weather permitting, expected completion is summer of 2014. The contractor is Environmental Innovations. 

US 98 from Daughtery Road to West Socrum Loop Road/West Hall Road: Construction project: Crews are installing drainage pipe and structures during the day. No lane closures are scheduled, but use caution and watch for workers close to the road. Work on this project includes removing and replacing the asphalt, adding northbound left turn lanes at various median openings between Fox Lake Drive and Thomas Road, extending right turn lanes at Marcum Road, Duff Road, Banana Road and West Oak Drive, adding bike lanes and shoulder on both sides of US 98, constructing sidewalk and upgrading bus stops. Weather permitting, expected completion is the end of 2014. The contractor is Lane Construction.

US 98 at Williamstown Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: No lane closures are scheduled, but use caution and watch for workers close to the road. Pedestrians should follow the posted detour signs around the sidewalk closure on the west side of US 98. Work on this project includes modifying the median to include a northbound left turn lane and adding a driveway entrance and sidewalk on the west side of US 98 North.

US 98 at Lakeland Central Park Center: Maintenance permit project: Work on this project includes adding a southbound left turn lane, modifying the sidewalk and moving the light pole box on the east side of US 98. Motorists should use caution and watch for intermittent nighttime southbound lane closures while crews construct the turn lane. Pedestrians should follow the posted detour signs around the sidewalk closure on the east side of US 98.

US 98 (Broadway Avenue) at the John Sigletary Bridge over the Peace River in Ft. Meade: Bridge Maintenance: Watch for lane closures with flaggers directing traffic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, June 5, as crews repair the deck joints. Use caution and be prepared to stop.

US 92 (Memorial Boulevard) at North Brunnell Parkway: Maintenance permit project: Crews will begin removing eight existing driveway entrances, sidewalk and curb and reconstructing two new driveway entrances, sidewalk and curbs. Expect intermittent eastbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Use caution while traveling in the area, and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.

US 92 at US 98: Construction project: Motorists should watch for nighttime westbound lane closures while crews remove the pedestrian island on the northeast corner of the intersection. Work on this project includes removing the pedestrian island, widening the turn lane and resurfacing the intersection. Weather permitting, expected completion is the end of 2014. The contractor is Lane Construction. 

US 27 from US 98 to West County Line Road: Maintenance project: Crews are cleaning ditches along both sides of this four-lane roadway through the middle of June. Motorists should use caution when traveling in this area.

US 27 at SR 542 (Dundee Road) Intersection: Construction project: There are no planned lane closures this week. Improvements on this project include replacing signal poles and signal equipment, removing and replacing the asphalt, repairing sidewalks, and signing and pavement markings.  The contractor is Florida Safety Contractors. Expected completion is summer of 2014.

US 27 from Ritchie Road to south of Barry Road:Construction project: A traffic shift remains in place north of I-4 on northbound US 27. Drivers should expect delays and use caution. The contractor will suspend construction activities on Monday, May 26 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Work on this project includes expanding US 27 from four lanes to six lanes, resurfacing the existing roadway, adding paved bike lanes, building curb and gutter with drainage swales, constructing sidewalk, upgrading existing traffic signals at Waverly Barn Road/Dunson Road and Deen Still Road/Ronald Reagan Parkway, installing new highway lighting at Deen Still Road/Ronald Reagan Parkway, and installing sound barrier walls. Southland Construction is the contractor on this project. Expected completion is fall of 2014. 

US 27 from Barry Road to US 192 (Davenport/Clermont): Construction project:  Crews will be working at night/overnight on the old bridge and setting beams at US 27/US 192. A temporary detour route will be in place from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Monday June 2, through Friday morning, June 6. Traffic shifts are in place on the ramps and north and south of the bridge at US 27/US 192. These shifts will remain in place through fall of 2015. Use caution and expect delays. 

Detour:  Westbound US 192 to Southbound US 27

The US 27 southbound ramp is closed to traffic traveling from westbound US 192. Detour signs direct westbound traffic to travel north on US 27 then make a U-turn at Cagan Crossings Boulevard then travel south on US 27.

Detour:  Southbound US 27 to Eastbound US 192

The US 192 eastbound ramp is closed to traffic traveling from southbound US 27. Detour signs direct southbound traffic to travel south on US 27 then make a U-turn at Polo Park Boulevard then travel north on US 27 then exit to eastbound US 192.

Improvements on this project include expanding US 27 and the bridge at US 192 from four lanes to six lanes, resurfacing the existing roadway, adding paved bike lanes, building curb and gutter with drainage swales, constructing sidewalk, installing new concrete pole traffic signals at the intersections of US 27/California Boulevard and US 27/Student Drive, and installing sound barrier walls. Prince is the contractor on this project. Expected project completion is summer 2016. 

US 27 from Silver Crest Drive to Bates Road (Haines City): Maintenance permit project: Crews continue working on the southbound right turn lanes along the west side of the roadway and are installing striping on the new northbound left turn lane to install striping. Motorists should expect intermittent nighttime single lane closures, both north and southbound. Intermittent daytime lane closures may become necessary, so motorists should use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Work on this project includes constructing two right turn lanes, one left turn lane, three driveway entrances and sidewalk. Use caution when traveling in this area. 

US 17 at Old Bowling Green Road (between Ft. Meade and Bowling Green):  Maintenance permit project: Old Bowling Green Road will close from 7 a.m., Monday, June 2, until 6 p.m. Friday, June 6, while crews replace a pipe beneath the roadway. Use caution and follow the posted detour. 

US 17/92 at Kinny Harmon Road: Maintenance permit project. Crews will remove muck and place surcharge (extra soil) on the southeast corner of US17/92 and Kinny Harmon Road.  No lane closures are scheduled, however, use caution and watch for workers close to the road. 

SR 674 at SR 37: Maintenance project: Expect lane closures with flaggers directing traffic, Monday, June 2 through Thursday, June 5 while crews install rumble strips along the eastbound lanes. Use caution and be prepared to stop. 

SR 659 (Combee Road) at North Crystal Lake Drive (Lakeland): Maintenance permit project: Expect intermittent lane closures during the nighttime/overnight hours of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews widen Combee Road. Motorists should use caution and be prepared to stop.

SR 572 (Airport Road) at SR 542 (Old Tampa Highway) Intersection: Construction project: Motorists should watch for daytime lane closures with flaggers directing traffic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. while crews install new signals and signs. Improvements on this project include adding left turn lanes in both directions from Airport Road onto Old Tampa Highway, adding traffic and pedestrian signals, replacing drainage pipes, removing and replacing the asphalt, and adding paved shoulder and sidewalk. The contractor is Lane Construction. Weather permitting, expected completion is summer of 2014.

SR 546 between Kettles Avenue and Texas Avenue D: Maintenance permit project: Crews will continue reconstructing two existing driveway entrances, sidewalk and curb. Expect intermittent westbound lane closures during the nighttime/overnight hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Use caution while traveling in the area, and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. 

SR 544 at Idylwild Drive: Maintenance permit project: Crews will remove and replace the existing sidewalk and curb on the northwest corner of the intersection and reconstruct a driveway entrance, sidewalk and curb gutter. Expect intermittent westbound lane closures during the nighttime/overnight hours of 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Use caution while traveling in the area and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. 

SR 540 at Spirit Lake Road intersection: Construction project: Motorists should watch for nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. as crews continue paving. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. This project includes removing and replacing the existing asphalt, upgrading the traffic signals, and adding turn lanes, curb, gutter, signs and pavement markings. Expected completion is summer 2014. The contractor is Lane Construction Corporation. 

SR 540 at 6th Street: Construction project: Motorists should watch for nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. as crews continue working in the intersection. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. This project includes upgrading pedestrian features on all four corners, restriping stop bars and cross walks and refurbishing the existing asphalt.  Expected completion is summer 2014. The contractor is Florida Safety Contractors.

SR 540 (Cypress Gardens Boulevard)from Overlook Drive to US 27: Construction project: Crews will continue constructing sidewalk and installing pipe, drainage structures, curb, gutter and guardrail during the day and working on turn lanes and paving at night. Motorists should expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Work on this project includes resurfacing, extending turn lanes, adding paved shoulders, upgrading traffic signals, installing lighted street signs and street lighting at signalized intersections, adding pedestrian signals and crosswalks at various intersections, repairing and constructing sidewalk, replacing guardrail at the bridges, and adding, replacing and cleaning drainage pipes. The contractor is Middlesex Corporation. Weather permitting; estimated completion by the end of 2014. 

SR 540 east of State Farm Entrance: Maintenance permit project: Work on this project includes constructing a right turn lane, driveway entrance and sidewalk on the north side of the roadway. No lane closures are scheduled. Use caution while traveling in the area.

SR 60 in Mulberry from NE 1st Ave to NE 12th Ave: Maintenance permit project: Crews will be landscaping the median and area between the sidewalk and the curb and gutter. Expect intermittent eastbound and westbound lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Use caution while traveling in the area, and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.

SR 60 at Alturas Road:  Construction project: Temporary lane closures are in place on eastbound and westbound SR 60 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, while crews extend the turn lanes. These lane closures will be in place through June 27. There is a permanent reduction of the speed limit from 65 mph to 55 mph. Work on this project includes installing new signals, extending turn lanes, installing pedestrian features and adding upgrades to meet current ADA standards, installing signal back plates, street lighting, and pavement markings. Use caution and watch for workers in the construction zone. Expected completion is fall 2014.The contractor is Traffic Control Devices, Inc.

SR 60 from Bonnie Mine Road to Armour Road: Maintenance permit project: Motorist should expect eastbound shoulder closures as crews replace transmission poles. Use caution when driving in the area and watch for workers close to the road.

SR 60 from west of Saddlebag Lake Road to east of Sam Keen Road:Construction project: Motorists should watch for daytime lane closures both east and westbound on this four-lane roadway while crews continue excavating, trenching and street light construction. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Work on this project includes adding streetlights to both sides of this four-lane roadway. Traffic Control Devices, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall of 2014. 

SR 60 from CR 630 to about 1.5 miles east of CR 630: Maintenance permit project: SR 60 will be one lane with flaggers directing traffic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, June 3 and Wednesday June 4. The lane closure is necessary as crews clean up a fuel spill. Use caution and be prepared to stop. 

SR 37 at the Mulberry Bridge from South of SR 60 over the Alafia River: Construction project: Crews are finishing miscellaneous items to complete the project. Work on this project included widening the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane roadway separated with a median from Dean Street north to SW 4th Street. The existing four-lane roadway, from SW 4th Street to SE 3rd Street, was also resurfaced, and the two-lane bridge over the north fork of the Alafia River has been replaced with twin bridges to accommodate four 12-foot travel lanes, bike lanes, and sidewalks. Leware Construction Company of Florida, Inc. is the contractor on this project. Expected completion is mid-June 2014. 

SR 37 (South Florida Avenue) from East Alamo Drive to Horizon Court: Maintenance permit project: The outside northbound lane will close intermittently during the nighttime/overnight hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews prepare to install a sewer liner Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.

SR 37 (South Florida Avenue) from East Walnut Street to West Walnut Street: Maintenance permit project: The outside northbound lane will close intermittently during the nighttime/overnight hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews prepare to install a sewer liner Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.

SR 37 (South Florida Avenue) north of the Walmart entrance:  Maintenance permit project: Expect intermittent southbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews construct a driveway entrance, curb and sidewalk on the west side of South Florida Avenue. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. 

SR 37 (South Florida Avenue) from CR 540 A to Carter Road:  Maintenance permit project: Expect intermittent northbound lane closures while crews install underground gravity sewer line along the east side of South Florida Avenue. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.

SR 33 from Voyles Loop to Grimes Street:Construction project: No lane closures scheduled as crews complete most of the remaining miscellaneous work. Workers will be on site again in the near future for final striping. Work on this project included expanding SR 33 to add left and right turn lanes, milling and resurfacing, and signing and pavement markings. Cone and Graham, Inc. is the contractor on this project. Expected completion is summer of 2014.

SR 17 (S. 10th Street) from SR 544/CR 544 to US 17/92 (Hinson Avenue) in Haines City: Construction project: Northbound SR 17 (S. 10th Street) remains closed to all traffic between SR 544/CR 544 and Wood Avenue. Signs will direct northbound traffic east on CR 544 then north on 30th Street and west on US 17/92 (Hinson Avenue) to SR 17 (S. 10th Street). A southbound lane will remain open for the duration of the project with access to driveways and side streets maintained for southbound traffic only through spring 2015. Crews continue to install pipe and underground utilities from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weather permitting. During this project, crews will replace the roadway base and pavement, widen travel lanes, and rework the center turn lane to include raised medians and median crossovers, replace existing drainage and add sidewalk and decorative street lighting. Estimated completion is summer 2015. The contractor is Prince Contracting, LLC.

SR 17 at Palm Street (Frostproof): Maintenance project: Expect intermittent southbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. while crews continue building a driveway entrance and sidewalk along the southbound lanes. Motorists should use caution and be prepared to stop.

6th Street NE from Avenue A NE to Avenue C NE and 4th Street SE from Avenue K SE to Avenue A SE: Crews will continue clearing the right of way of debris and placing forms to pour sidewalk on 6th Street NE, and begin placing signs on 4th Street SE. Watch for lane closures with flaggers directing traffic from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and after 4:30 p.m. Use caution and prepare to stop. This is a Safe Routes to School project that includes adding sidewalk on both sides of 6th Street NE and 4th Street SE, installing wheel chair-accessible ramps with ADA compliant pads at the side street intersections, constructing curb and gutter and adding pedestrian crossings at various locations. 6TH Street NW north of Avenue A NW: Maintenance permit project: Utility crews will repair equipment located next to the outside southbound lanes. Watch for southbound lane closures from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, June 2 through Friday, June 6.

North Parkway Frontage Road from South Florida Avenue to Waring Road: Construction Project: Motorist should expect lanes to remain open as crews install construction signs and temporary fencing to control erosion. Work on this project includes resurfacing the roadway, reconstructing sidewalk and curb ramps in various locations, installing detectable warning surfaces on all sidewalk ramps, installing traffic detection cameras to control the signals at Waring Road, Harden Boulevard and Underpass Road, replacing the signal equipment at Underpass Road and installing concrete pads at bus stops. Estimated completion is the end of 2014. The contractor is Preferred Materials, Inc.

South Parkway Frontage Road from Pipkin Creek Road to Underpass Road (including Underpass Road): Construction Project: Motorist should expect lanes to remain open as crews install construction signs and temporary fencing to control erosion. Work on this project includes resurfacing and installing traffic detection cameras to control the signals at Harden Boulevard. Estimated completion is the end of 2014. The contractor is Preferred Materials, Inc.

SARASOTA COUNTY

Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) Phase III: Construction project: Crews will be working on minor activities throughout the week. 

SR 780/Fruitville Road, SR 758/Bee Ridge Road and SR 72 between I-75 and US 41: Maintenance contracts project: Crews are making concrete repairs to inlets and curbing. Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the end of June. 

I-75 Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Satellite Traffic Management Center: Construction Project: Work continues to install fiber optics communications cable and transmission equipment, closed-circuit television cameras, and roadside sensors along I-75 from the Charlotte/Sarasota County line (near mile marker 172) to the Sarasota/Manatee County line (University Parkway/near mile marker 213). During the week of Sunday, June 1, 2014, the contractor plans to continue testing electrical wire, fiber optic cable, pull boxes, cabinets and ITS devices northbound and southbound I-75 between mile markers 172 and 213.  Motorists should anticipate shoulder closures for this work. Motorists should use caution while traveling through construction zones. Estimated completion is summer 2014. The contractor is World Fiber Technologies, Inc.

I-75: From Sumter Boulevard to River Road: Construction project:  This project expands I-75 to six lanes. Crews continue clearing the right of way and performing earthwork activities. Drivers should pay attention to traffic signs and barricades throughout the construction project, stay alert, and use caution in the work zone. Estimated completion is summer 2016. The contractor is Conalvias USA. 

I-75 at Fruitville Road (Exit 210), Laurel Road (Exit 195), Jacaranda Boulevard (Exit 193) and Sumter Boulevard (Exit 182): Construction project: Crews are replacing overhead signing at each of the interchanges. Nighttime/overnight lane closures will occur between 10:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. while crews are working at Laurel Road and Sumter Boulevard. Expected project completion is summer 2014. Highway Safety Devices, Inc. is the contractor. 

I-75 at Jacaranda Boulevard and Laurel Road: Construction project: Crews are installing new highway lighting at the Jacaranda Boulevard and Laurel Road interchanges. No lane closures are expected. Motorists should be aware of trucks entering and exiting the highway. Estimated project completion is summer 2014. Conti Corporation is the contractor.

US 41 at Salt Creek and the Myakka River: Construction project: Crews are installing erosion control materials beneath the bridge. No anticipated lane closures and impacts to marine traffic will be minimal. Expected completion is fall 2014. Coastal Gunite Construction Co. is the contractor.

SR 758 from Cattleman Road to Phillippi Creek: Construction project: Crews are removing old asphalt (milling) and resurfacing the roadway. Make improvements to the drainage systems, curb, and gutter. Install guardrail, new signing, and pavement markings. Nighttime/overnight lane closures will occur between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. throughout the duration of the project. Expected completion is spring 2014. Superior Asphalt, Inc. is the contractor.

SR 758/Midnight Pass Road between Riegels Landing Drive and Winding Way: Maintenance project: Crews are removing vegetation. Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Wednesday, June 11.

SR 72 at Gateway Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway. Motorists should expect intermittent westbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, June 6.

SR 72/Stickney Point Road at Swift Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, making drainage improvements and replacing mast arms. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 6 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Weather permitting; completion is summer 2014. Preferred Materials, Inc. is the contractor.

SR 72 over Vanderipe Slough: Bridge maintenance project: Expect intermittent eastbound and westbound lanes closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 6 for bridge maintenance. Motorists should use caution while in the area and expect possible delays.
