June 6 through June 13, 2014
Palm Beach County – Palm Beach County traffic will be affected this week by ongoing construction projects and maintenance work, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) officials report. Weather permitting; closures will be in effect on I-95 and in other areas throughout Palm Beach County for construction activities.

I-95 Corridor Projects:
I-95 Interchange at Spanish River Boulevard
Construction on this 2.5-mile project began Monday, January 13, 2014, in the City of Boca Raton. Work consists of constructing a new interchange at Spanish River Boulevard and I-95, widening Spanish River Boulevard west of FAU Boulevard, constructing 13 bridges between Spanish River Boulevard and Yamato Road, signalized intersection improvements and the addition of auxiliary lanes on Yamato Road, and sound wall construction along Yamato Road and on the east side of I-95 north of Yamato Road. The project costs an estimated $67 million. The work is being performed by Astaldi Construction and is expected to be completed fall 2016.
Restrictions: The outside lane of I-95 northbound, between Glades Road and Yamato Road, will be closed, nightly, Sunday through Thursday, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday, June 15 until Monday, June 30. The outside right lane of westbound Yamato Road to northbound I-95, including the right turn lane, will be closed as needed, Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., through Monday, June 30. Motorists will still be able to access northbound I-95 from this location during this closure.
I-95 Noise Wall Installation from north of Lake Ida to south of Woolbright Road
Construction on this 1-mile project began Monday, January 6, 2014, in the City of Boynton Beach. Work consists of installation of a ground and shoulder mounted noise wall, overhead sign, guardrail, drainage and sod. The project will cost an estimated $2.3 million. The work is being performed by Construct Group Corp and is expected to be completed fall 2014.
Restrictions: All lanes are open.
I-95 Skid Hazard Overlay from north of 6th Avenue South to Lake Worth Road
Work on this 0.5-mile project began Friday, March 14, 2014, in the City of Lake Worth. Work consists of installing a high friction epoxy overlay and thermoplastic pavement markings to the bridge deck from just north of 6th Avenue South to Lake Worth Road. The project costs an estimated $1.8 million. The work is being performed by Ram Construction Services and is expected to be completed late summer 2014.
Restrictions: All lanes are open.
Southern Palm Beach County Projects:
Glades Road (CR 808) from State Road 7 to Lyons Road
Construction on this 1.5-mile project began Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in Boca Raton. Work consists of repaving the roadway, signalization upgrades, mast arm installation, curb, sidewalk, and guardrail upgrades, and sign, landscape and irrigation improvements. The project costs an estimated $2.4 million. The work is being performed by Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc. and is expected to be completed fall 2014.
Restrictions: One lane will be closed, daily, westbound, 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., with one lane closed, eastbound, 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday through summer 2014. One lane will be closed, nightly, westbound, 6:30 p.m. until 7 a.m., with one lane closed, eastbound, 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 a.m., Monday through Friday through summer 2014.
Central Palm Beach County Projects:
Lantana Road (CR 812) from Sunset Road to east of I-95
Construction on this 0.6-mile project began Monday, July 8, 2013, in the Town of Lantana. Work consists of repaving the roadway, widening the I-95 overpass bridge, and replacing lighting and traffic railing. The project costs an estimated $6.1 million. The work is being performed by Zep Construction and is expected to be completed spring 2015.
Restrictions: I-95 at Lantana Road may have three lanes closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Lantana Road at I-95 may have one lane closed in each direction, 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Due to construction activities, I-95 southbound ramp shoulders are closed and pedestrian traffic on Lantana Road is shifted to the south side.
Jog Road at Southern Boulevard (SR 80) Bridge widening over C-51 Canal from Gun Club Road to Wallis Road
Construction on this 0.5-mile project began Friday, July 26, 2013, in the City of West Palm Beach. Work consists of widening the Jog Road Bridge over the C-51 canal, milling & resurfacing, signage, signalization upgrades, irrigation, drainage improvements and installation of new sidewalks and ramps to meet ADA standards. The project costs an estimated $2.4 million. The work is being performed by Weekly Asphalt Paving, Inc. and is expected to be completed early summer 2014.
Restrictions: The outside southbound lane of Jog Road is closed through June 2014. The right outside turn lane of the Southern Boulevard to Jog Road eastbound ramp is closed through June 2014. One lane of Jog Road may be closed in each direction, intermittently, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. One lane of Jog Road may be closed in each direction, intermittently, 7 p.m. until 7 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning, through June 2014.
Flagler Memorial Bridge Replacement Project
This 0.66-mile Design/Build project includes replacing the existing bascule (draw) bridge with a new bascule bridge connecting the Town of Palm Beach and the City of West Palm Beach over the Lake Worth Lagoon and the Intracoastal Waterway. The Flagler Drive overpass will be replaced with an “at-grade” intersection. New lighting, pedestrian features, traffic signals, drainage, and landscaping are also included. The Design/Build team for this project is PCL Civil Constructers and Hardesty & Hanover. New Millennium Engineering, Inc. provides Construction Engineering and Inspection services on behalf of FDOT. Active construction began on Sept. 10, 2012, and will last until early 2017. The estimated construction cost is $94.2 million.
Restriction: The Flagler Memorial Bridge is closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic until Nov. 1, 2014. During this closure, drivers are being detoured to the Royal Park Bridge to cross the Intracoastal Waterway.
Restriction: A new traffic pattern is in place at the intersection of Flagler Drive and the Royal Park Bridge. Drivers going south on Flagler Drive cannot turn left to go east on the Royal Park Bridge and drivers going west over the Royal Park Bridge cannot turn left to go south on Flagler Drive. These restrictions will be strictly enforced and will remain in place while the Flagler Memorial Bridge is closed. The following detours are in place:
- Drivers going south on Flagler Drive who want to go east over the Royal Park Bridge should take S. Dixie Highway to Okeechobee Boulevard and go east on Okeechobee Boulevard to cross the Royal Park Bridge.
- Drivers going west on the Royal Park Bridge who want to go south on Flagler Drive should continue west to S. Dixie Highway, go south on S. Dixie Highway to Okeechobee Boulevard, and go east on Okeechobee Boulevard to Flagler Drive.
Restriction: The outside northbound lane on Flagler Drive will be closed as needed between 3Street and 6 Street, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. At least one northbound lane will remain open at all times. Drivers should watch for trucks entering and exiting the work zone.
Marine Restrictions: The Flagler Memorial Bridge spans are in the “open” position with no anticipated impacts to marine traffic. Restrictions and openings at the Royal Park Bridge and Southern Boulevard Bridge have been adjusted as follows: The Royal Park Bridge opens once per hour at 15 minutes past the hour with no openings from 7:16 a.m. to 9:14 a.m. and from 4:16 p.m. to 6:14 p.m., Monday through Friday. On weekends and Federal holidays, the bridge opens twice per hour at 15 minutes past the hour and 45 minutes past the hour. The Southern Boulevard Bridge opens twice per hour on the hour and at 30 minutes past the hour with no openings from 7:31 a.m. to 9:29 a.m. and from 4:01 p.m. to 5:59 p.m., Monday through Friday. On weekends and Federal holidays, the bridge opens twice per hour on the hour and at 30 minutes past the hour. Northern Palm Beach County Projects:
Beeline Highway (SR 710) from West of Congress Avenue to West of Australian Avenue
This 0.82-mile resurfacing project began Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, in the City of Riviera Beach. Work included widening the existing roadway from two to four lanes, installation of bike lanes, curb and gutter, sidewalks, signalization, lighting, landscaping, signing and pavement markings, and resurfacing. The work was performed by Ranger Construction Industries, Inc., and was completed Friday, May 30, 2014. The estimated construction cost was $12.2 million.
Restrictions: This project was final accepted by the Florida Department of Transportation on Friday, May 30, 2014.
US 1 (SR 5) from South of 13th Street to Silver Beach Road
This 1.4-mile resurfacing project began Monday, July 30, 2012, in the City of Riviera Beach. Work includes milling and resurfacing the existing roadway, drainage and water main installation throughout the project, curb and sidewalk replacement, upgrades to pedestrian and traffic signalization, signage upgrades, and sidewalk and driveway ramp installation to meet ADA standards. The work is being performed by Gibbs and Register, Inc., and is expected to be completed early summer 2014. The estimated construction cost is $12.8 million.
Restrictions: Traffic is open to two lanes in each direction during inactive construction periods. During active construction periods, intermittent lane closures will continue in each direction as needed. Side streets may also have brief intermittent closures during this time. Left turn lanes will remain open at signalized intersections. Business detours are available using Avenue A and C to the east of US 1, and Avenue E to the west of US 1. Traffic will remain in this pattern through June 2014.
Maintenance, Utility and Permit Closures:
Restrictions: The Lake Avenue Bridge, over the Intracoastal Waterway in the City of Lake Worth, will have various lanes closed in each direction, 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Monday, June 9, through Thursday, June 12.
Restrictions: The PGA Boulevard Bridge, over the Intracoastal Waterway in the City of Palm Beach Gardens, will have one eastbound lane closed, 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., with one westbound lane closed, 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday, June 14, for lock inspection.
Restrictions: Beginning Monday, June 9, landscaping installation will begin along I-95 between Southern Boulevard and Belvedere Road, in the City of West Palm Beach. Work will continue through early Fall 2014. At this time, no lane closures are expected; however, motorists should be aware of trucks entering and exiting the highway in this area.
Restrictions: There will be daily lane reductions at NE/SE 5th Avenue, from Atlantic Avenue to NE 3rd Street, SE 3rd Street to Atlantic Avenue, and SE 10th Street to SE 4th Street, in the City of Delray Beach, for storm drainage installation and curb and gutter work. There will also be daily lane reductions at NE/SE 6th Avenue, from NE 2nd Street to NE 8th Street. Side streets will be detoured as this work progresses. Restrictions: Southern Boulevard, at Lamstein Lane in the Village of Royal Palm Beach, will have the outside westbound lane and bike lane closed around the clock through Wednesday, June 11 for drainage work. In conjunction with this closure, the northbound lane of Lamstein Lane will be closed at the intersection during this time. Southern Boulevard will also have two westbound outside lanes closed approaching Lamstein Lane, 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, through Wednesday, June 11.
Restrictions: A1A at Carlin Park, in the Town of Jupiter, is closed to all traffic between the north and middle entrances of Carlin Park, through July 2014, for bridge removal and construction.
