SOUTHERLAND HOSTS ANTI-POVERTY SUMMIT
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, II hosted on Friday an anti-poverty roundtable discussion at the Jackson County Agriculture Center in Marianna. Southerland was joined by more than 30 community leaders from rural communities across North Florida to highlight the work they are doing to combat poverty.
“Nobody knows our poverty challenges better than the people who fight for families in need on a daily basis,” said Southerland. “I represent a congressional district that includes large cities and countless rural communities, and I believe we must focus with equal passion on conquering poverty in both regions. Today’s event provided a unique opportunity to get North Florida’s community leaders together, listen to their hearts, and better understand how we in Washington can best help them in fighting rural poverty.”
Southerland serves as chairman of the House Republicans’ Anti-Poverty Initiative. He has worked to connect lawmakers with organizations and individuals who are fighting poverty in their community.
