TCC Police Department announces all-clear following incident
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 10, 2014) – The Tallahassee Community College Police Department issued an all-clear notice at 12:57 p.m. after an incident on campus this morning involving an armed gunman.
Law enforcement has declared the campus safe, and all classes and events will go on as scheduled. All TCC offices are open as well.
“The response from law enforcement was extremely quick,” said Al Moran, TCC vice president of marketing and communications. “Thanks to all the agencies that joined the effort as soon as they heard about this incident. Thankfully, no shots were fired and there were no injuries.”
The response included the TCC Police Department, Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sherriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, Leon County Schools Security and the U.S. Marshals Service.
The College sent out an initial alert at about 10:30 this morning advising students, faculty and staff to shelter inside a building because an armed gunman had been reported near the Academic Support building on campus. A loudspeaker also broadcast the information to those in outdoor areas of the campus.
Throughout the morning, TCC PD and cooperating law enforcement agencies investigated the campus and found no sign of the suspect.
“We waited to give the all-clear until law enforcement had the chance to make sure campus was safe. We are now back up and running,” said Moran.
