Scotts LawnService Launches Ortho Mosquito Control Service so Floridians Can Take Back Their Yards
Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers residents offered service to eliminate pesky and dangerous pests
ORLANDO – Scotts LawnService is launching a new Ortho Mosquito Control Service in five Florida cities, perfect timing for Florida’s rainy season, when added precipitation leads to sitting water that attracts mosquitoes – a health threat and a pest.
Florida’s warm weather invites people to live and visit here to enjoy the nature and attractions, but with buzzing and biting mosquitoes nearby, being outside in the summer can be annoying, painful and bad for one’s health. And humans aren’t the only ones affected by mosquitoes – pets are also at risk if bushes, decks, porches and yards aren’t properly treated. Mosquitoes can carry dog heartworm, which is more common in the Southern United States and can be fatal to dogs.
Scotts LawnService is providing this service so Floridians can take back their lawns from mosquitoes and enjoy their yards.
“Scotts is pleased to offer Floridians our new mosquito control service, which seeks to kill mosquitoes on contact, repel them before they get into yards and keep them away for up to a month,” said John Bell, Scotts Technical Support Manager for Pest Control. “With summer here and people wanting to enjoy their yards and outdoor spaces, mosquitoes are unwanted and unhealthy pests that no one wants nearby. We think it’s better to treat the foliage than for someone to spray themselves with mosquito repellent.”
Scotts LawnService professionals conduct monthly service at residential properties to treat locations where mosquitoes typically live. Trained professional pest control specialists – using Ortho® Max Pro products – treat yards so homeowners don’t have to. Scotts specialists use pressurized sprayers and techniques to ensure complete coverage.
The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences labels 79 species of mosquitoes present in the state. Mosquitoes are not only an annoyance for those enjoying Florida’s outside weather, but can be a health threat, as well.
Mosquitoes can carry a host a diseases that have been diagnosed in the United States, including Dengue, West Nile Virus, Chikungunya virus, Malaria and forms of Encephalitis. Cases of Malaria are more common in Central and South America as well as the Caribbean, but roughly 2,000 cases were diagnosed in the United States in 2011 – a 40-year high, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
