FAMU Schedules Town Hall Meeting on Athletics August 4
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In keeping with her commitment to conduct meetings with stakeholders regarding the temporary suspension of the Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University (FAMU) men’s tennis and golf teams, today President Elmira Mangum, Ph.D., announced a town hall meeting scheduled Monday, August 4 at 6 p.m. in Lee Hall Auditorium, 1601 S. Martin L. King Jr. Blvd.
The two teams were temporarily suspended in June as part of a strategic plan to balance the athletic budget as required by the state. In addition to surveying the public, President Mangum will meet with the coaches and players of the tennis and golf teams to get their feedback regarding the temporary suspension. She also plans to meet with the 220 Quarterback Club, an athletic support group with a long-standing history of contributing to FAMU Athletics.
“Holding these meeting is in keeping with one of our core values – to conduct the university’s affairs in an open and transparent fashion,” said Mangum. “I am excited by the outpouring of support expressed by the community regarding these two teams and I am hopeful that this rally of support will result in increased giving, not only for these two teams, but for the athletic program as a whole.”
In addition to conducting the focus group meetings, the University is also soliciting the feedback of alumni who may not have the opportunity to attend the live sessions by conducting an online survey from now through Aug. 25.
