Representative Halsey Beshears Honored with 2014 Legislative Appreciation Award
The Florida League of Cities honored Representative Halsey Beshears with a 2014 Legislative Appreciation Award at the Monticello City Council meeting on August 5.
This prestigious award is being presented to Representative Beshears for his consistent efforts during the 2014 legislative session to protect the home rule powers of Florida’s cities by supporting the League’s legislative agenda. Legislative Appreciation Award recipients are legislators who work closely with the League’s advocacy team and demonstrate strong and consistent support of municipal home rule issues.
“On behalf of Florida’s 410 cities and the thousands of municipal officials, elected and unelected, the Florida League of Cities is happy to recognize Rep. Beshears for his support,” said Florida League of Cities Legislative Director Scott Dudley. “Rep. Beshears has been a great partner to rally support for League positions. It is clear that he believes that the level of government closest to the people should make the decisions that affect the quality of life of the citizens they have been elected to represent. We owe him a great deal of thanks.”
Beshears, elected in 2012, is a Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing Florida’s 7th district. Rep. Beshears serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Simpson Nurseries and the President of Total Landscape Supply. He is past president of the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association and currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Jefferson County Farm Bureau.
Founded in 1922, the Florida League of Cities is the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments. Its goals are to promote local self-government and serve the needs of Florida’s cities. Florida’s cities are formed by their citizens and governed by their citizens. The League is founded on the belief that local self-government is the keystone of American democracy.
