STATEMENT BY SENATE PRESIDENT-DESIGNATE ANDY GARDINER ON THE AUGUST GENERAL REVENUE ESTIMATE
Tallahassee — Florida Senate President-Designate Andy Gardiner (R-Orlando) today released the following statement regarding the revised General Revenue Estimate developed by economists representing the Senate, House, Governor’s Office and the Legislature’s Office of Economic and Demographic Research.“Essentially the estimate is unchanged and Florida’s economy is strong and growing as the private sector continues to create the jobs that fuel Florida’s families.
“It was not long ago that with each successive estimating conference we learned how much we had to cut from the budget in order to stay in the black. We are fortunate that our projected revenues are expected to grow by approximately $1 billion annually for the next six years and our state can continue to invest in education, transportation infrastructure, and environmental restoration and preservation initiatives that improve the quality of life for residents and visitors to our state.
“As we prepare to build our budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year, we will continue to utilize the fiscally conservative financial principles that have proven successful for our state. We will live within our means, set aside ample reserves and responsibly plan for Florida’s future.”
