Representative Jim Boyd Honored with 2014 Legislative Appreciation Award
The Florida League of Cities honored Representative Jim Boyd with a 2014 Legislative Appreciation Award on August 11.
This prestigious award is being presented to Rep. Boyd for his tireless efforts during the 2014 legislative session to protect the home rule powers of Florida’s cities by supporting the League’s legislative agenda. Rep. Boyd consistently voted in support of League positions and played an integral role behind the scenes to rally support for League priorities. Legislative Appreciation Award recipients are legislators who work closely with the League’s advocacy team and demonstrate strong and consistent support of municipal home rule issues.
“On behalf of Florida’s 410 cities and the thousands of municipal officials, elected and unelected, the Florida League of Cities is happy to recognize Rep. Boyd for his long standing support,” said Florida League of Cities Legislative Director Scott Dudley. “Rep. Boyd has been a great partner to in the protection of home rule authority. It is clear that he believes that the level of government closest to the people should make the decisions that affect the quality of life of the citizens they have been elected to represent. We owe him a great deal of thanks.”
Rep. Boyd is a Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 71st district. Rep. Boyd was elected to office in 2010, and re-elected subsequently. He served as Deputy Whip from 2011-2012 and is currently the chair of the State Affairs Committee. Rep. Boyd is a former councilman, vice mayor and mayor for the City of Palmetto.
Founded in 1922, the Florida League of Cities is the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments. Its goals are to promote local self-government and serve the needs of Florida’s cities. Florida’s cities are formed by their citizens and governed by their citizens. The League is founded on the belief that local self-government is the keystone of American democracy.
