MEDIA ADVISORY UPDATE: Florida Polytechnic to Officially Open with LAUNCH Ceremony

WHAT: On Saturday, August 16, State and University leaders will gather for a special LAUNCH Ceremony to celebrate the completion of the iconic Innovation, Science and Technology (IST) Building and the official opening of Florida Polytechnic University.

The ceremony will take place outdoors on the south side of the IST Building. Following remarks from University leadership and special guests, attendees will experience an actual LAUNCH. A vivid pyrotechnics display will shower the campus lake adjacent to the state-of-the-art IST Building. An open house will follow.

WHO: Florida Polytechnic University leadership, including President Dr. Randy K. Avent, Chief Operating Officer Ava L. Parker and Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees Chair Robert H. Gidel. IST Building architect Dr. Santiago Calatrava. State government and education leaders including Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam, Representative Seth McKeel, Governor Wendy Link of the State University System Board of Governors and former Florida Senator J.D. Alexander.

**Special Media Information**

  • Media should park along in General Lots 3 or 4 (see attached map) or along Research Way.
  • A riser will be set up for media use approximately 30 feet from the stage. The angle will accommodate shots of both the stage and the pyrotechnics display. However, media members will be allowed to also shoot from a mid-lake walkway approximately 300 feet from the IST Building that will offer shots of the building framed by pyrotechnics. Media members will need to be in position no later than 10:00 am to take advantage of this view.
  • Some b-roll and still photos from the LAUNCH Ceremony will be made available to media later in the day.
