Statement by Commissioner Putnam on EPA’s Decision to Allow Local Firefighters to Receive Surplus Military Equipment

Tallahassee, FL – Following the announcement that the U.S. Department of Environmental Protection has reversed its decision and will again allow local and state firefighters to have access to military surplus equipment without burdensome regulations, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam released this statement:

“I am pleased the Obama Administration and the EPA have reversed course and will continue to allow local firefighters to receive surplus military equipment from the federal government, without the burdensome regulations implemented unexpectedly and unnecessarily just weeks ago. Our volunteer, local and wildland firefighters risk their lives every day, and the least we can do is provide the resources they need to do their job.”
