Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys to Hold Leadership Gathering and Teen Workshop

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys will convene a leadership gathering and hold a youth workshop on Thursday Dec. 10 in Tallahassee. The Youth Pathway to Prosperity Day of Dialogue begins at 8 a.m. and the Teen Rally and Workshop begins at 4 p.m. The events raise awareness, promote dialogue and identify successful existing and emerging opportunities aimed to prepare black youth across the state with knowledge, skills and employment opportunities.

Established in Florida law, the mission of the Florida Council is to research and propose measures that improve conditions affecting black men and boys. The 18-member statewide council focuses its work on four primary areas — criminal justice, education, employment and health — and is administratively supported by the Office of the Attorney General. Today’s meeting is the latest in a series of dialogues convened by the Florida Council to identify research, best practices, additional resources and innovative policy changes needed to achieve educational access, opportunity and outcome parity for black males across Florida.
