HARDEE COUNTY

US 17 from the Hardee/Desoto County Line to Sweetwater Road (CR 634): Construction Project: Crews are widening US 17 from two lanes to four lanes, adding a grassed median and building new two-lane bridges over Charlie Creek and Charlie Creek Overflow. The contractor will also install new roadside drainage swales and storm water ponds to manage water running off the roadway. The contractor is Watson Civil Construction. Watch for crews and equipment working close to the road. Drivers should expect daytime lane closures and flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone in a single lane. Please observe posted speed limits and drive with caution in the construction zone. Estimated completion is summer 2018.

 SR 636 at SR 64: Construction project: Crews are building a new section of road to realign the SR 64 connection to SR 636. SR 64 is closed between the intersections of SR 636 (7 mile point) and Ed Wells Road to allow for these intersection improvements. During construction, the contractor will detour traffic 24 hours a day using SR 636 and US 17. Watch for lighted message boards and signs directing traffic around the work zone. Detour routes are in place to travel around the work zone. FDOT urges motorists to use the official detour route. Watch for crews and equipment working close to the road. Please observe posted speed limits and drive with caution in the construction zone. The contractor is Lane Construction. Expected completion is summer 2017.

US 17 from south of West 9th Street to north of West 3rd Street: Construction Project: Crews are constructing a new four-lane concrete roadway using the old railroad corridor along Oak Street to realign this 1-mile segment. The contractor is installing curb and gutter, 7-footbike lanes, sidewalks, and a 52-foot raised median to separate the northbound and southbound lanes of traffic. The project also includes installing a new underground drainage system and two storm water ponds to manage water running off of the roadway. Motorists should expect periodic lane closures for construction operations. Estimated completion is fall 2018.

 

HIGHLANDS COUNTY

 SR 25 (US 27) Southbound at the intersection of Lakewood Drive: Permit Project: Crews will be reconstructing the driveway/connection at the old Wendy’s/new Popeye’s location. Watch for trucks entering and exiting the site. Please use caution in this area and watch for crews working close to the roadway.

SR 25 (US 27) Southbound, to 700’ south from Lakewood Drive: Permit Project: Crews will be installing underground gas main. Please use caution in this area and watch for crews working close to the roadway.

 SR 25 (US 27) Southbound between Ryant Blvd. and Alan Jay Kia: Permit Project: Crews will be building a new driveway/connection. Watch for trucks entering and exiting the site. Please use caution in this area and watch for crews working close to the roadway.

 Rucks Dairy Road Bridge: Construction Project: Crews will be building a new two lane bridge to replace the current one lane bridge. Construction of the new bridge will be next to the current bridge. Additional improvements will include resurfacing a portion of the road approaching the new bridge, drainage enhancements, new guardrails and updated signage. The Contractor is Leware Construction Company of Florida. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the work zone. Expected project completion is spring 2018.

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 (SR 93) / University Parkway Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI)(Sarasota/Bradenton):  Construction Project:

New Traffic Pattern on Northbound I-75. Details below:
The contractor anticipates permanently shifting northbound I-75 traffic from the Acrow temporary bridge onto the permanent northbound I-75 bridge at night/overnight Sunday, April 23 after 8 p.m. Traffic shifts to the right.

Detour – University Parkway CLOSED under I-75 at the I-75/University Parkway Interchange: 

Monday, April 24 through Saturday, April 29 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following Morning. Details below:
The contractor anticipates implementing a temporary detour route at the I-75/University Parkway interchange at night/overnight Monday, April 24 through Saturday, April 29 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning while crews remove the Acrow temporary bridge over University Parkway. All ramps will remain open.

Motorists traveling west on University Parkway (east of I-75) wishing to travel west through the interchange are directed to travel north on I-75, exit at westbound SR 70/Exit 217B, enter southbound I-75, and exit at University Parkway/Exit 213.

Motorists traveling east on University Parkway (west of I-75) wishing to travel east through the interchange are directed to travel south on I-75, exit at Fruitville Road/Exit 210, enter northbound I-75, and exit at University Parkway/Exit 213.

Motorists traveling south on I-75 wishing to travel east on University Parkway are directed to exit at Fruitville Road/Exit 210 (south of the closure), enter northbound I-75, and exit at University Parkway/Exit 213.

Motorists traveling north on I-75 wishing to travel west on University Parkway are directed to exit at westbound SR 70/Exit 217B (north of the closure), enter southbound I-75, and exit at University Parkway/Exit 213.

Watch for a traffic shift to the inside (left) on northbound I-75 between Fruitville Road to north of Errie Creek bridge at night/overnight Wednesday, April 26 after 8 p.m.

Watch for a traffic shift to the outside (right) on the southbound I-75 on-ramp at night/overnight Monday, April 24 after 8 p.m.

Temporary intermittent single and double lane closures are in place at night/overnight on northbound and southbound I-75 Sunday, April 23 through Saturday, April 29 between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Double lane closures begin at 11 p.m.

Temporary intermittent lane closures are in place at the intersection of Cooper Creek Blvd. and University Parkway and at Market Street and University Parkway at night/overnight Monday, April 24 through Wednesday, April 26 from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning while crews install permanent traffic signals and remove old traffic signals and temporary poles. Temporary intermittent single and double lane closures are in place at night/overnight on eastbound and westbound University Parkway from Cooper Creek Blvd. to Market Street Sunday, April 23 through Saturday, April 29 from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Double lane closures begin at 10 p.m.

The contractor is installing water main and storm drain throughout the project, excavating earth material, removing the Acrow temporary bridge, restriping sections of University Parkway, constructing sidewalk and curb and gutter, painting the panels for the noise wall, installing permanent signalization, installing guardrail, and installing permanent signage. Watch for trucks entering and leaving the highway. Watch for changes in the speed limit. Speeding fines double when workers are present.

 Improvements being made as part of this project consist of constructing a diverging diamond interchange, adding an auxiliary lane on northbound and southbound I-75, constructing new bridges on  I-75 over University Parkway, widening of University Parkway, widening of I-75 bridges over Errie Creek and Foley Creek, realignment of on-ramps and off-ramps at I-75/University Parkway, addition of ponds, drainage improvements, new lighting and signalization, construction of a noise wall on the west side of I-75, sidewalks, bike lanes, and pedestrian walkways.  I-75 from Moccasin Wallow Road to the Hillsborough County Line: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing I-75, making drainage improvements, installing guardrail, and adding new signage and pavement markings. The pavement along Moccasin Wallow Road at the I-75 interchange is also being reconstructed. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures while crews are working. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, LLC, is the contractor. Expected completion is summer 2018.

 US 301 from 19th Street to 60th Avenue: Construction project: Crews are removing old asphalt and resurfacing the roadway; installing guardrail and new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures while crews are working. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida LLC, is the contractor. Expected completion is summer 2017.

US 301 at the Hernando Desoto Bridge: Construction project: Crews are installing pile jackets, making concrete repairs and repairing the bridge fender system. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Portions of Riverwalk along the seawall will be closed from early May through the end of August while crews are working on the seawall. Inland Construction and Engineering, Inc., is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2017.

SR 789 at the Longboat Key Bridge: Bridge maintenance project: Crews are working on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight intermittent north and southbound lane closures controlled by flaggers from 9 p.m. each night to 4 a.m. each morning Sunday, April 23 through Thursday, April 27. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 684/Cortez Road at 20th Street W: Construction project: This project is to perform pedestrian improvements at the SR 684/Cortez Road at 20th Street W intersection; including, new pedestrian crossing ramps, crosswalks, and pedestrian signals.  This week, crews will work on final punch list and site cleanup.  Variable message signs are in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and should use caution while traveling in the work zone. Estimated completion is spring 2017. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor.

SR 70 from 301 Boulevard to Tara Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway and making signal upgrades. Expect daytime and/or nighttime/overnight lane closures while crews are working. Daytime construction work continues along SR 70 reconstructing concrete curbs and sidewalks for ADA improvements from 301st Boulevard E/15thStreet E with periodic lane closures. Expect nightly lane closures Sunday through Thursday while crews are resurfacing the roadway. Expected completion is late summer 2017. The contractor is Superior Asphalt, Inc.

SR 70 at Greenbrook Boulevard West: Construction project: Crews are installing a new traffic signal, crosswalks with pedestrian signals, and street lighting at the intersection. Motorists should expect daytime or nighttime lane closures; therefore, drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. This week, crews will be installing lighting, road striping, and working daytime and overnight on the traffic signal.  Expected completion is spring 2017.  Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor.

SR 64 at Rye Road: Maintenance permit/utilities project: Crews are performing utility locates. Expect nighttime/overnight left lane and left turn-lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, April 23. Use caution and expect possible delays.

 

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY
Bascule Bridge over Taylor Creek on US 98/US 441: Permit Project: Eastbound and Westbound lanes of traffic will be closed alternately on May 9, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow crews to perform a routine bridge inspection. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Motorists should expect delays and be aware of crews working close to the road.

SR 78 over the Kissimmee River Bridge: Construction Project: Crews are repairing the SR 78 Bridge over the Kissimmee River in Okeechobee County. Improvements to the bridge include updating the bridge infrastructure, replacing the deck grating and refreshing the paint. Motorists should expect periodic eastbound and westbound lane closures to allow for crews to make these updates to the bridge. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. The travel lane will be 12 feet during construction, so wide loads will not be able to cross the bridge. Motorists should expect delays and be aware of crews working close to the road. Weather permitting; work should be complete in summer 2017.

US 98 at Trusty Street: Maintenance project: Crews will be cleaning ditches. Expect daytime lane closures Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Please use caution while traveling through this area.

US 441 from NE 304th Street to the Osceola county line: Permit project: Crews are installing underground utilities.  Use caution and watch for workers close to the road.

US 441 from SW 8th Street to SW 28th Street: Maintenance contract project: Crews are repairing storm drains. Watch for northbound and southbound lane closures and be prepared to merge.

US 441 between NW 9th Street and NW 7th Street:  Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect a single lane closure on northbound and southbound US 441 between NW 9th Street and NW 7th Street on Thursday, March 30th, 2017 from 8:00 am to approximately 3:00 pm. This lane closure is necessary for crews to repair the railroad crossing. Motorists should expect delays and use caution as crews work in the roadway.

US 441 from NE 224th St. (Orange Ave) North to the County Line:  Maintenance project:  Use caution and watch for workers close to the road making spot repairs to the shoulder. 

US 98 and SR 78 from Martin County to Glades County: Ongoing Permit project: Utility Crews are replacing utility poles. Use caution and watch for workers close to the road.

US 98 approximately three miles north of the airport: Driveway Permit project: Construction workers are installing a driveway and driveway culvert.  Watch for workers close to the road. Watch for periodic northbound lane closures and be prepared to stop.

SR 78 over Kissimmee River, 4.7 miles west of US 441: Bridge maintenance: Crews will be performing routine bridge inspection. Inspection will require intermittent lane closures during daylight hours. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone in a single lane. Motorists should use caution and watch for crews near the roadway.

SR 70 from NE 13th Avenue east to NE 34th: Avenue: Maintenance project: Crews are spraying herbicide on the sidewalks on both the north and south side of SR 70 during the day. Use caution while traveling through this area

SR 70 from NE 31st Avenue to Berman Road: Construction project: Crews are preparing the eastbound roadway for paving, completing subgrade, finishing base rock, installing drainage, placing embankment and grading shoulders. Workers are installing handrail and barrier wall at the Mosquito Creek Bridge and forming and pouring substructure at the L63 Canal Bridge, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, weather permitting.

 

  • NE 64th Avenue is closed while workers build the roadway. Follow posted detour.
  • Expect periodic lane closures on SR 70. Follow flagger directions.
  • During this project, crews will expand the roadway to four lanes, improve drainage, construct concrete bridges, pour curb, gutter, and sidewalk, and install guardrail, permanent signs and pavement markings. Watch for crews and equipment working in the construction zone. Observe posted speed limits and drive with caution. Estimated completion is summer 2017. The contractor is Ranger Construction Industries, Inc.

    SR 70 east of Okeechobee/NE 34th Avenue to Williams Road/NE 48th Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are relocating utilities along the south side of the road. No lane closures are scheduled, but use caution and watch for workers close to the road.

    SR 70 west of US 27: Maintenance permit project: Watch for workers close to the road while they work from the shoulders cleaning ditches. Use caution driving in these areas.

    US 441 from South of NE 224th Street to South of NE 304th Street: Construction project: This 5.378 mile project consists of milling and resurfacing, base work, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, signing and pavement marking and signalization. Crews will be installing construction signs and erosion control measures. Expected project completion is summer 2017. The Contractor is Lynch Paving Construction Co.  Motorists should use caution when traveling through the work zone.

    POLK COUNTY

     I-4 from the east end of the Polk Parkway to Osceola County line:  Construction project: Crews are installing a new Fog/Low Visibility Detection System on Interstate 4 from the east end of the Polk Parkway to the Osceola County line. Expect intermittent shoulder closures and trucks entering and leaving the highway throughout the project. Speeding fines double when workers are present.

    Improvements under this contract include installing wind, precipitation, visibility and atmospheric sensors, thermal infrared cameras, flashing beacon signs and replacing the amber dynamic message signs with full-color dynamic message signs. Expected completion is fall 2017. The contractor is Transcore ITS.

    US 98 at Marcum Road: Maintenance permit project: Watch for periodic daytime lane closures southbound as crews begin removing the existing paved shoulder and building a new turn lane. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

     

    US 92 (SR 600) from Reynolds Road to Schalamar Creek Entrance: Construction project: Traffic on U.S. 92 from Reynolds Road to Schalamar Creek Drive reduces to one lane in each direction and shifts entirely onto the existing eastbound lanes while crews work on the westbound lanes. Driveway and side street access will be limited, so drivers need to be prepared to make U-Turns at the beginning and end of the project. The temporary lanes will not accommodate wide loads, so wide load haulers should seek alternate routes. This traffic pattern will remain in place through early May 2017.

    Improvements on this project consist of milling and paving, base work, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, guardrail, sidewalks, signing & pavement markings and replacing the existing US 92 bridges over the Lake Parker Drainage Canal and Saddle Creek. The expected completion date is summer 2017. The contractor is Commercial Industrial Corporation.

     US 92 from Berkley Road to Walker Road and from Jersey Road to US 27: Maintenance contracts project: Watch for intermittent shoulder closures as well as periodic lane closures as needed, with trucks entering and leaving the highway, as crews repair pipes, mitered end sections, driveways and complete paving. The contractor is Evans Contracting. Expected completion is spring 2017.

    US 92 from Walker Road (east of Recker Highway) to Jersey Road: Construction project: Motorists should expect day and nighttime lane closures for bridge joint repairs, Sunday, April 23 through Friday, April 28. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

    Expect periodic daytime lane closures for sodding and cleanup. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

    This project includes milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, signal pole and equipment upgrades, lighting, guardrail, and joint repairs on the bridge. Weather permitting; expected completion is summer 2017. Preferred Materials is the contractor.

     US 92 and US 17/92 from Jersey Road to US 27: Maintenance contracts project: Crews are trimming trees over the roads and sidewalks along the rights-of-way. Watch for intermittent lane closures, equipment entering and leaving the highway and be prepared to merge.

     US 27 at Ritchie Road: Maintenance permit project: The northbound right turn lane at Ritchie Road remains closed through Thursday, April 27. Use the northern turn lane and entrance to access Ritchie Bros. Auctions during this time.

     US 27 (South of Frontage Road): Maintenance permit project: Crews will close the outside southbound lane from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while they build a right turn lane and sidewalk, and relocate a light pole.  Use caution and be prepared to merge.

     US 27 southbound turn lane onto eastbound SR 60: Maintenance contracts project: Expect lane closures on the US 27 southbound turn lane leading to the eastbound entrance ramp to SR 60 from 5 a.m. to 12 noon, Tuesday, April 25, while crews fix a light on the overhead sign. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

     

    US 17/92 at Ernie Caldwell Boulevard in Davenport: Maintenance permit project: Use caution and watch for workers and equipment close to the road as crews work outside of the roadway. This project includes adding turn lanes and shoulders on US 17/92 at the extension of Ernie Caldwell Boulevard, approximately two miles south of CR 54 (Ronald Reagan Parkway).

    US 17 from Osceola County line to Lake Alfred: Maintenance contract project: Watch for slow moving vehicles and intermittent lane closures as crews replace reflective pavement markings. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

     US 17 from SR 540 (Cypress Gardens Boulevard) to East Laurel Drive in Eagle Lake: Maintenance contract projects: Watch for intermittent southbound lane closures as crews repair sidewalks, ADA mats, curb and gutter. Use caution and be prepared to merge. The contractor is Central Concrete Products. Expected completion is early May.

     US 17 (6th Street NW) at Avenue D NW in Winter Haven: Construction project: Watch for nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. as crews install pedestrian signals and start on final items and cleanup. Use caution and be prepared to merge. Expect periodic sidewalk closures at the intersection and follow posted detours. Work on this project includes upgrading pedestrian signals and constructing crossing ramps and cross walks at the intersection. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC. Expected completion is early spring 2017.

     US 17 from Van Fleet Drive to CR 640: Maintenance contracts project: Crews are trimming trees over the roads and sidewalks along the rights-of-way. Watch for intermittent lane closures, equipment entering and leaving the highway and be prepared to merge.

    US 17 from Oak Hammock Park to Polk/Hardee County line: Maintenance contract project: Watch for slow moving vehicles from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, as crews replace striping and reflective pavement markings on the roadway. The contractor is Traffic Solutions. Expected completion is the end of April.

    SR 674 from SR 37 to Hillsborough County line: Maintenance contracts project: Crews are trimming trees over the roads and sidewalks along the rights-of-way. Watch for intermittent lane closures with flaggers directing traffic and equipment entering and leaving the highway. Use caution and be prepared to stop.

     SR 655 (Recker Highway) North of Commercial Boulevard and South SR 559 (overpass) – Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime/overnight lane closures while the contractor paves travel lanes and turn lanes on Recker Highway.

    SR 548 from Main Street to Sloan Avenue: Maintenance contracts project: Crews are trimming trees over the roads and sidewalks along the rights-of-way. Watch for intermittent lane closures, equipment entering and leaving the highway and be prepared to merge.

    SR 546 (Memorial Boulevard) from Interstate 4 to Brunnell Parkway:
    Construction project: Watch for daytime and nighttime shoulder closures along both sides of the roadway while crews continue utility work, placing drainage, grading shoulders and concrete pavement reconstruction.

    Crews will close Munn Ave. at Memorial Boulevard Monday, April 24 through Tuesday, April 25 and Swindell Ave. at Memorial Boulevard Thursday, April 27 through Friday, April 28 while crews install drainage items.  Use caution and follow posted detours.

     This project includes reconstructing the concrete roadway, drainage improvements and guardrail work between Interstate 4 and Wabash Avenue, and adding a bike path/trail on the south side of SR 546 from Chestnut Road East to Brunnell Parkway. The expected completion date is spring 2018. The contractor is GLF Construction Corporation.

     SR 542 from 1st Street to Buckeye Loop Road: Frontier Communications utility permit project: Expect periodic lane closures while crews load and unload equipment, and workers close to the road, as crews relocate and install new communication facilities on the north and south side of the roadway. Expected completion is spring 2018.

     SR 540 (Cypress Gardens Boulevard) from Lake Florence Drive to Cypress Gardens Road: Maintenance permit project: City of Winter Haven crews will close the outside northbound lane from 8 p.m., Thursday, April 19 to 5 a.m., Friday, April 20, to install a water tap. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

     SR 60 from CR 655 to US 17: Maintenance contracts project: Crews are trimming trees over the roads and sidewalks along the rights-of-way. Watch for intermittent lane closures, equipment entering and leaving the highway and be prepared to merge.

     SR 60 from Van Fleet Drive to Gandy Cemetery Rd: Maintenance contracts project: Crews are trimming trees over the roads and sidewalks along the rights-of-way. Watch for intermittent lane closures, equipment entering and leaving the highway and be prepared to merge.

    SR 60 East from Airport Road to the CSX track: Maintenance permit project: Watch for daytime lane closures while crews install sanitary force main and water main beneath the roadway and along the north side of SR 60. Work will occur near Airport and Acuff roads through Friday, April 21. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

    SR 60 east of Sam Keen Road: Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures and traffic shifts from 9 p.m. Sunday, April 23 to 6 a.m. Monday, April 24.  SR 60 traffic reduces to one lane in each direction and shifts entirely onto the existing eastbound lanes while crews mill and resurface the westbound lanes from Jimmy’s store to Sam Keen Rd. Law enforcement will be on site while they finish the paving. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

     SR 37 from US 92 to George Jenkins Boulevard: Maintenance contract project: Watch for northbound and southbound sidewalk closures and crews working close to the road replacing damaged and deficient concrete sidewalk and ADA ramps. Pedestrians should follow posted detours. Estep Construction is the contractor.

     SR 37 from Allamanda Drive to Poinsettia Street: Maintenance permits project: Expect northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. as crews cut and replace curb and sidewalk. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

    SR 37 at Lake Harris Drive/South Lakeland Drive: Construction project: The median opening remains closed as crews stripe the new turn lanes and clean up the project. Watch for nighttime/overnight northbound and southbound lane closures from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. and follow the posted detour to cross South Florida Avenue.

    This project includes milling, resurfacing, drainage improvements, curb and gutters, and a new traffic separator in the median crossover that allows northbound and southbound left turns only from South Florida Avenue.

     SR 37 (South Florida Avenue) at Carter Road and Sheppard Road/Shimmering Drive: Maintenance permits project: Watch for northbound and southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday, April 16 through Saturday, April 22, as crews mill and resurface the intersections. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

     SR 33 from Wood Circle East to SR 559: Maintenance contracts project: Crews are trimming trees over the roads and sidewalks along the rights-of-way. Watch for intermittent lane closures, equipment entering and leaving the highway and be prepared to merge.

     SR 17 (South 10th Street) at SR 544/CR 544: Construction project: Watch for single daytime and nighttime lane closures and traffic shifts on SR 544/CR 544 both east and westbound Sunday, April 23 through Saturday, April 29. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.
    Crews will close the eastbound SR 544 to southbound SR 17 right turn lane, Friday, April 28 through Monday, May 1, while crews repair and pour curb at the southwest corner of the intersection.  Motorists may turn southbound from the travel lane.

    Crews will also close Verano Drive at CR 544 periodically as needed through the end of April for paving and striping. The closures will occur during the day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with workers reopening the road nightly.

This project includes milling and paving, widening and striping the lanes and turn lanes on CR 544, removing the right-turn slip lane on northbound SR 17 and restriping the lanes for right turn and through traffic, replacing signal poles and upgrading signal equipment, adding lighted street signs, providing pedestrian crosswalks and signals, adding ADA compliant sidewalks and ramps, installing curb and gutter and improving drainage. The contractor is American Lighting and Signalization. Expected completion is spring 2017.

 Saddle Creek Road from Tower Manor Drive to Old Dixie Highway and Old Dixie Highway from Glenn Road to Berkley Road: Construction project: Expect daytime and nighttime/overnight lane closures with flaggers directing traffic through the end of April, while crews continue installing sidewalk and ADA ramps, cleanup and repairs. Watch for pedestrian detours, and follow posted signs. This project includes new sidewalk, ramps and drainage improvements.  The contractor is Russell Engineering, Inc. County Road 765/Jacaranda Boulevard and County Road 772/East Venice

Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: This project is to perform improvements to the roundabout at the County Road 765/Jacaranda Boulevard and County Road 772/East Venice Avenue intersection; including realigning of lanes, adjusting turning curves, and installing new pavement markings and signage. Detour – University Parkway CLOSED under I-75 at the I-75/University Parkway Interchange:

The contractor anticipates implementing a temporary detour route at the I-75/University Parkway interchange at night/overnight Monday, April 24 through Saturday, April 29 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning while crews remove the Acrow temporary bridge over University Parkway. All ramps will remain open.

Motorists traveling west on University Parkway (east of I-75) wishing to travel west through the interchange are directed to travel north on I-75, exit at westbound SR 70/Exit 217B, enter southbound I-75, and exit at University Parkway/Exit 213.

Motorists traveling east on University Parkway (west of I-75) wishing to travel east through the interchange are directed to travel south on I-75, exit at Fruitville Road/Exit 210, enter northbound I-75, and exit at University Parkway/Exit 213.

Motorists traveling south on I-75 wishing to travel east on University Parkway are directed to exit at Fruitville Road/Exit 210 (south of the closure), enter northbound I-75, and exit at University Parkway/Exit 213.

Motorists traveling north on I-75 wishing to travel west on University Parkway are directed to exit at westbound SR 70/Exit 217B (north of the closure), enter southbound I-75, and exit at University Parkway/Exit 213.

Temporary intermittent lane closures are in place at the intersection of Cooper Creek Blvd. and University Parkway and at Market Street and University Parkway at night/overnight Monday, April 24 through Wednesday, April 26 from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning while crews install permanent traffic signals and remove old traffic signals and temporary poles. Temporary intermittent single and double lane closures are in place at night/overnight on eastbound and westbound University Parkway from Cooper Creek Blvd. to Market Street Sunday, April 23 through Saturday, April 29 from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Double lane closures begin at 10 p.m.

The contractor is installing water main and storm drain throughout the project, excavating earth material, removing the Acrow temporary bridge, restriping sections of University Parkway, constructing sidewalk and curb and gutter, painting the panels for the noise wall, installing permanent signalization, installing guardrail, and installing permanent signage. Watch for trucks entering and leaving the highway. Watch for changes in the speed limit. Speeding fines double when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of constructing a diverging diamond interchange, adding an auxiliary lane on northbound and southbound I-75, constructing new bridges on  I-75 over University Parkway, widening of University Parkway, widening of I-75 bridges over Errie Creek and Foley Creek, realignment of on-ramps and off-ramps at I-75/University Parkway, addition of ponds, drainage improvements, new lighting and signalization, construction of a noise wall on the west side of I-75, sidewalks, bike lanes, and pedestrian walkways. Business US 41 from Palermo Place to Venice Avenue: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, constructing new sidewalk and installing new bus pads.  US 41 from SR 789 to Ritz Carlton Drive and sidewalk located along the north side of SR 789 from Sunset Drive to US 41 will remain closed until construction of the development located at the corner of US 41 and SR 789 is complete. Pedestrians should follow the established detour.

 US 41/Venice By-Pass from Gulf Coast Boulevard to Bird Bay Drive: Construction project: Crews continue installing utility and storm drain systems and constructing temporary pavement. Expect intermittent nighttime/overnight northbound and southbound lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. throughout the project limits while crews are working.

Ridgewood Avenue at US 41: Ridgewood Avenue at US 41 closed to thru traffic on Monday, March 6 for approximately five weeks. A detour is in place using East Venice Avenue.

Motorists should be mindful of the construction signs in place and traffic control officers and use caution while traveling through the project area.  Bergeron Land Development is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2018.

 US 41 over Myakkahatchee Creek: Construction project: Crews are constructing new pedestrian overpasses over Myakkahatchee Creek; improving drainage; installing guardrail, and constructing new sidewalk. Expect daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Cone & Graham, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2017.

 US 41 from Browning Street to 11th Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway; installing new drainage; installing highway lighting, curb and gutter; constructing new sidewalk, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on US 41; US 301; Fruitville Road, and Orange Avenue while crews are working. Preferred Materials, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2017.

 SR 789 at New Pass Bridge: Construction project: Crews are updating the Bridge Tender house, electrical and mechanical components, and traffic gates on New Pass Bridge. Sidewalk improvements are included as well. As part of ongoing construction and to test the new electrical and mechanical components, the contractor is required to open the bridge four times per day. In an effort to minimize impacts to the public, the contractor will complete the required daily four openings between 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday through Sunday. If the required number of openings cannot be obtained during this time period the contractor will use openings during the day during normal boat traffic.  The testing period is expected to last through mid-May. Quinn Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2017.

 SR 789/John Ringling Parkway at Bird Key: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing sidewalk, installing landscaping and irrigation. Expect possible daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, April 28. Use caution and expect possible delays.

 SR 776 between Dartmouth Street and Jacaranda Boulevard: Maintenance contracts project: Crews are performing storm water pipe cleaning through late May. Expect intermittent daytime and nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Use caution and expect possible delays.

 SR 758/Bee Ridge Road/Osprey Avenue from Siesta Drive to Dunn Drive: Construction project:  The traffic currently shifts to the north from US 41/Tamiami Trail to west of Shade Avenue. The south sidewalk remains closed in this area behind the barrier wall & is part of the construction zone.  Pedestrians must use the north sidewalk from US 41/Tamiami Trail to Shade Avenue.

Traffic is shifted to the south from Shade Avenue east to McIntosh Road as crews install storm drainage in selected areas on the north side of the roadway.  The north sidewalk is closed in these locations and pedestrians will be directed to the new sidewalk on the south side of Bee Ridge Road.  The bi-directional turn lane is closed east of Shade to mark the traffic shift.  Drivers headed east should use the signalized intersections to make a U-turn to access businesses on the north side.

Please stay alert for intermittent lane closures as well as slow moving construction vehicles throughout the project.  Motorists should plan additional travel time and exercise caution as the construction operation progresses across driveways and side streets.

Side Street and Driveway Advisories:  Completion of the storms drainage, curb and sidewalk construction continue on the south side of Bee Ridge Road. Water main work for the city of Sarasota is on-going as well.  Crews are also preparing the roadbed for paving and there will be intermittent side street closures throughout the west end of the project. Please stay alert for those temporary closures.  Please watch for driveway closures as well through this area.  Alternate driveway access is provided where needed for businesses.

Crews are working on the north side of Bee Ridge installing storm drainage as well as preparing specific areas for paving. Riviera Drive, Radnor Place and Belmont Boulevard continue to see closures, one at a time, to accomplish this work. Motorists should pay special attention throughout this project and follow the detour signage in place to access streets to and from Bee Ridge Road.

The project consists of significant drainage improvements, removing old asphalt and resurfacing the roadway, reconstructing sidewalk, and installing new signalization in some areas.  The project also includes construction of eleven (11) pedestrian refuge islands on Bee Ridge Road between Dunn Drive and US 41. Expected completion of the $17 million project is fall of 2017.

 SR 758/Siesta Drive at San Remo Terrace: Construction project: This project is toperform drainage improvements at the Siesta Drive at San Remo Terrace intersection; including, new storm water drainage inlets and pipes, and drainage swale improvements. Drivers should anticipate nighttime lane closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. This week, crews will work on final punch list items and site cleanup.  Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway.
