Kendrick Meek for U.S. Senate: Big News

September 7, 2010 Politics Comments Off

I have big news. Today, we’re kicking this race into high gear and launching a brand new TV ad.

None of the pundits thought we would be on the air this early in the general election, but your tireless grassroots energy is proving them wrong. I am so grateful to have you in my corner.

In Florida, running ads is a critical component of any winning campaign. Today, you helped us prove we can go toe-to-toe with the endless supply of special interest cash powering the campaigns of Marco Rubio and Charlie Crist.

Our media strategy will only go as far as you take it. We’re only on the air because of your support. We need your continued commitment to stay there. We need 150 donors ASAP to keep this ad running. I need your contribution right away.

Click here to watch our new TV ad. You made it possible, and a contribution from you right now can keep it on the air.

The message of this ad is simple. I’m the only candidate who was against offshore oil drilling before and after the spill and who has always been against gambling one penny of your Social Security in the stock market.

Thanks to you, voters across this state are seeing this message for the first time and learning there’s only one Senate candidate who shares their values. We’re delivering a powerful message, and I owe that to you.

I know that as long as I can count on your unyielding support, we can win. Today is another huge step towards that goal.

Thanks again,

Kendrick

Alex Sink for Governor: What’s the difference?

September 7, 2010 Politics Comments Off

It didn’t take long for Rick Scott to try to drag this campaign into the mud. It’s how he won the Republican Primary, and it’s how he thinks he can win the General.

Instead of focusing on the issues facing Florida, he’s spending all of his time talking about President Obama. It’s an attempt to hide from questions about his own record.

I’ve had enough of his brand of campaigning. And I’m calling him out on it in my new TV ad. We need a Governor who attacks Florida’s challenges, not one who bases his campaign on petty attacks. We’ve set a goal of raising $55,000 this week from grassroots supporters like you to make sure voters see the ad.

Click here to watch the ad and contribute to keep it on TV.

There are only eight weeks left in this campaign. The differences between my campaign and Rick Scott’s are becoming clearer every day.

But with supporters like you, I know that Floridians will hear the truth. And together we’ll get Florida back on the right track.

Thank you,

Alex Sink

Party bosses in Washington will do all they can to drown out our message.  Our campaign counts on YOU to make your voice heard, and to demand the kind of common-sense, cross-party leadership this video promises.  Please share our ad with your friends, contribute, and stay connected.

Florida Democrats: Does Rick Scott Want to Privatize Social Security Too?

September 7, 2010 Politics Comments Off

The Scott-Carroll Team is on Record Wanting to Privatize Medicare, Medicaid, VA Hospitals – and Now Social Security

Last week, Floridians found out that disgraced healthcare CEO Rick Scott wanted to privatize Medicare, Medicaid and even the Veterans Administration Health Services in his pursuit of profit over doing what’s right. Scott never told Florida’s seniors he wanted to end Medicare as we know it – so what else is he hiding?

“The nearly 3.7 million Floridians who count on Social Security now and all Floridians who are promised Social Security in the future deserve to know just how far Rick Scott feels privatization should go. Does Rick Scott want to privatize Social Security and gamble with Floridians’ savings?” Eric Jotkoff, Spokesperson for the Campaign for Accountability 2010 asked. “Last week Rick Scott chose a running mate who has been strongly in favor of privatizing Social Security, meaning the Scott-Carroll ticket is on record as wanting to privatize Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Administration hospitals and Social Security – in short, the safety net millions of Floridians rely on.”

Social Security puts almost $4 billion per month into Florida’s economy. Half of the nearly 3.7 million Floridians on Social Security receive at least half of their income from the program, and for 25 percent of recipients, Social Security provides 90 percent or more of their income. Rick Scott should tell Florida’s seniors if he wants to gamble with the money they rely on to live.

Background

Rick Scott Wanted To Privatize Medicare, Medicaid And VA Hospitals – Said, “The Things We Are Doing Wrong In Health Care Can Be Corrected If Private Business Could Run National Health Care Administration.” In September 2010, the Orlando Sentinel reported that, “Republican gubernatorial nominee Rick Scott could have to do some explaining about his past this fall, and not just what he knew about the Medicare and Medicaid fraud at his former company, Columbia/HCA. See, he once wanted to privatize all of it: the government-funded health-care programs that pay for the check-ups, hospital stays and prescriptions for 45 million seniors and millions more poor people. …’If you look at how the government runs VA hospitals and Medicare and Medicaid, you can see that the whole system is inefficient,’ Scott told the South Florida Business Journal the same year. ‘The things we are doing wrong in health care can be corrected if private business could run national health care administration.’” [Orlando Sentinel, 9/3/10]

Jennifer Carroll Advocated For Partial Privatization Of Social Security – Said Private Accounts Would Give Retirees “Far More In Their Pension Funds.” In a candidate questionnaire published by the Orlando Sentinel, in November 2000, Jennifer Carroll wrote, “If younger workers are allowed to invest a portion of their Social Security payroll taxes in their own retirement accounts, over the long run, they will have far more in their pension funds — by their own efforts — than any government Social Security pension fund could hope to provide. [Orlando Sentinel, 11/5/00]

Half Of Floridians On Social Security Rely On The Benefit For Half Their Income – 25 Percent Rely On The Benefit For At Least 90 Percent Of Their Income. In August 2010, the St. Petersburg Times reported that, “Half of Floridians on Social Security rely on the benefit for half their income. Some 25 percent count on Social Security for at least 90 percent of their income.” [St. Petersburg Times, 8/1/10]

Jeff Atwater for CFO: A message for Labor Day

September 6, 2010 Politics Comments Off

On this Labor Day afternoon, let us take a moment to acknowledge the effort of those who’ve worked hard to make America the international beacon of prosperity. Let us also commit ourselves to returning our state and nation to the pinnacle of economic success.

As we celebrate the commitment and dedication of the American worker, it is unfortunate that we also saw new data last week that the nation’s unemployment rate is still unacceptably high. … Continue Reading

As you gather with your family and friends to celebrate Labor Day, please take a moment to recognize the hardworking men and women who drive our economy and make our state great.

I hope this email finds you well as you celebrate with your family and friends on Labor Day. I would first like to thank you for your time and support with Loranne’s campaign thus far, without dedicated volunteers and supporters like you we would not be where we are today.

Now that we have entered the General Election cycle the volume of our volunteers must increase and we need your help to make that happen. We are going to begin our phone banking and call program this week and need volunteers to come into our headquarters for one hour or two hour shifts to help each day.

Rick Scott for Governor: This Labor Day

September 6, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Today we recognize the strength and commitment of our country’s workforce. Because of the dedication of the American worker, we have a great nation built through ingenuity, perseverance and determination. I am also reminded today of the though economic times we have all encountered and how vital the ability to find a job is to those who strive to achieve the American Dream.

As our state struggles though the highest unemployment rate on record, we must redouble our efforts to build an economy and business-friendly environment where employees are needed; and, as Governor that will be my highest priority. … Continue Reading

Allen Boyd for Congress: Honoring our working families

September 6, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Throughout history, the American spirit of hard work and determination has been a monumental force in the progress of this great nation. In good times and in bad, the working men and women of America have kept that spirit alive, working hard every day to build our communities, teach our children, serve the public, and keep us safe.

On this Labor Day, I would like to thank all of the working families who keep our country and our state moving forward on a daily basis. I can’t thank you enough for all of the hard work you do, day in and day out.

Please enjoy this time with your family and friends. Have a safe and happy Labor Day.

Scott Maddox for Agriculture Commissioner: Saluting Florida’s working families

September 6, 2010 Politics Comments Off

On this day it is important that we take time to honor the many men and women who have labored, fought, and organized to build this great nation.

I am proud to stand with my brother and sisters – honoring their efforts – as we celebrate America’s most indispensable resource – the American worker.

My family has deep roots in Florida labor, and we know firsthand the consequences of not being protected. My grandfather lugged blocks of ice from house to house only to be “let go” so the company he worked for would not have to pay his duly earned retirement. My father founded a union and served as its president.

Today is a day of praise and remembrance, but it is also a day of action. … Continue Reading

Alan Grayson for Congress: Who Pays for the Koch Coup? You Do.

September 6, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Oil billionaire David Koch is spending $250,000 on attack ads against me this week. But I’m not the only one. In fact, he is deploying his polluting billions toward this modest goal:

Choosing our next government.

In more than 50 Congressional races across the country, in the next two months, Koch will be spending $45 million. To give you an idea of how much money that is, the total amount of all PAC contributions to all candidates so far is roughly $200 million. <!–more–>

We have to fight back! Please help us fight back, with your contribution.

And much of the money that Koch is using in this attempted leveraged buyout of our Government comes from . . . you and me.

For many years, Koch had a contract to extract oil from federal and Indian lands. In return, Koch was supposed to pay a royalty. A jury found that Koch underpaid the Government by $210 million.

Media Matters says that Koch has received $100 million in government contracts in the last ten years alone.

And Koch has paid for his assault on progressive government during the past decade largely with tax-deductible, tax-free foundation money:

$120 million from the “David H. Koch Charitable Foundation,”

$48 million from the “Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation,” and

$28 million from the “Claude R. Lambe Charitable Foundation,” Charles Koch controls.

So there you have it. It’s the taxpayers who have inadvertently underwritten the Koch assault on social services, a clean environment and good government.

Stop the Koch coup! Please help support our counterattack.

From time to time, we will keep you posted about the Koch scheme to dictate who wins and who loses elections in America. In the meantime, thank you for your support for clean government. And special thanks to the 1000+ supporters who answered the call, and made a contribution to help us fight back.

Truth,

Alan Grayson

Kendrick Meek for U.S. Senate: Statement by Kendrick Meek on the Passing of Marco Rubio’s Father

September 5, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Miami Gardens, FL — Kendrick Meek released the following statement on behalf of the Meek family and his U.S. Senate campaign on the passing of Marco Rubio’s father.

“Since learning of the news on Friday morning, I along with my family have kept Marco and his family in our prayers.  The passing of a father occurs only once in a lifetime and ever the dutiful son, Marco was where all children would hope to be during this time of family need – at his dad’s bedside surrounded by family. That Marco’s father could come to this country with next to nothing, raise a loving and growing family to include a son who is a candidate for the U.S. Senate in Florida, is a testament to the strength of the Rubio character and proof positive of the greatness of this nation. Political differences takes a back seat to the priority at hand – caring for a mother and spending time with family.  Let mourning be combined with celebration for a life that is exceptionally American, a life that only a handful of people have ever lived.  My wife Leslie, our children, and my mother Carrie extend our condolences to you Marco and your family.”

Alan Grayson for Congress: A Real-Life ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ Card

September 5, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Let me tell you something else about David Koch, the billionaire who is spending $250,000 in attack ads this week, to try to defeat me.

In 1999, Koch Industries was indicted on 97 counts of violating the Clean Air Act, and related criminal laws. Why? Because Koch’s Corpus Christi oil refinery had dumped 91 tons of benzene, a carcinogen, into the environment.

Four Koch employees faced up to 35 years in prison. And Koch was liable for $350 million in fines. … Continue Reading

Marco Rubio for U.S. Senate: 60 days to go!

September 3, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Thank you for your support! We’ve clearly come a long way and have less than 60 days to go until the November election.  We need you to keep giving your all for Marco.  Every call made, every door knocked, every dollar raised gets us one step closer to victory.  Be sure to check out our Action Center here and find your local volunteer office here.

This week, we want to highlight some outstanding volunteers Team Rubio.

Narda from Clearwater: Since last November, Narda has been volunteering nearly every day, making sure the Rubio for U.S. Senate office in Clearwater is open and that calls are being made to spread Marco’s message.  Because of her efforts and others like her across Florida, we were able to make over 40,000 calls this week alone.

Billie from Ocala: Although she recently hurt her knee block walking, Billie couldn’t be stopped from getting out the word to her community about Marco’s campaign.  She picked up her phone and started dialing, promising to make 500 calls in a week. But, she didn’t make 500…she made 800!  This made Billie one of our top callers this week!

It’s not hard to understand why our supporters are so committed and energized about Marco’s campaign.  Here’s a sampling of news coverage from the past week:

Marco talked about promoting  a job creation environment in Florida and jumpstarting the U.S. economy on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” this week.

Watch news coverage from Marco’s time in the Tampa area on Monday.

A good article to read, “Charlie is flipping, flopping, fumbling and losing.”

Thanks again for everything you do. Please continue to spread the word – talk to your friends and families about what’s at stake, share Marco’s ideas with your networks, make some calls.  In 60 days we can send Marco to Washington to really shake things up.

Thanks for your support,

Team Rubio

Florida Democratic Party: Campaign for Accountability 2010 Opens South Tampa Office and Hosts Grassroot Kickoffs Statewide

Florida Democratic Party: Scott Brings Up Even More Questions for Floridians with Carroll’s LG Rollout

September 3, 2010 Politics Comments Off

As news reports showed, Scott’s insider selection of Jennifer Carroll as his running mate in his race to defraud Floridians and take our state in the wrong direction hit more potholes than his botched bus tour or knee-jerk Solantic press conference.

After reportedly failing to convince Republican after Republican including first choice Paula Dockery to be his running mate, Scott finally found someone willing to serve as an accomplice in his campaign to help himself, instead of the people of Florida.  But as the coverage showed, from her lack of results in the legislature, to questions about ‘blemishes in her own record,’ to video of her bashing Rick Scott, Carroll was anything but a smart choice for the disgraced executive.

“Amazingly, Rick Scott was able to top his train wrecks in his primary campaign with his announcement of his running mate – which according to independent sources left ‘many questions unanswered,’” said Eric Jotkoff, spokesperson for the Campaign for Accountability 2010.  “From reports of about half a dozen candidates who rejected being considered as Scott’s running mate, to video of Scott’s pick questioning his leadership and motives less than a month ago, to Carroll having difficulty pointing to a single accomplishment in her lengthy career in the Legislature, when it comes to Rick Scott’s LG choice, he may as well plead the fifth.” … Continue Reading
