Rick Scott for Governor: From the Clear Choice Tour

August 21, 2010 Politics Comments Off

I just returned from traveling around the state with Rick, and I have to tell you I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for and excitement about Rick’s candidacy. The movement that you have helped us build is taking off – the people of Florida are recognizing the clear choice we face in this election.

Rick’s message is simple – if you are happy with the direction the state is headed, then vote for his opponent.  But, if you are looking for a conservative outsider who has a specific plan to create jobs and to change the way Tallahassee is run, then Rick Scott is your candidate.  On the campaign trail, you can really feel the support for this positive message. … Continue Reading

Charlie Crist for U.S. Senate: Defining This Race – Campaign Update

August 21, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Next week marks the official start of the General Election, and our campaign could not be in a better position.

We have maintained our lead in the polls, with a new Quinnipiac Poll showing Governor Charlie Crist at 40%, Marco Rubio at 32%, and Jeff Greene at 15%.  More importantly, the people of Florida are excited.

They are looking past Primary Day and into November, when, for the first time in Florida history, they can elect an independent candidate into a major statewide office.

Enthusiasm is growing.  Earlier this week, Governor Crist stopped by the Wynmoor in Broward County to discuss the importance of preserving Social Security.

Writes the Miami Herald about the event:  “The several hundred seniors who gathered at the Wynmoor condo complex theater in Coconut Creek Wednesday clapped repeatedly for Crist, sometimes giving him a standing ovation.”

It is essential we keep our momentum.  The people of Florida need a fighter in Washington, someone who will side with them, always, regardless of the political tide.

It is essential that we define this race.

If you want an independent voice in Washington, one who who will fight for YOU, here is what you can do:

Visit our website.

Sign up and join Governor Crist in his fight to put the people of Florida above party politics.

Learn more about Charlie Crist’s vision for Florida in this recent interview.  And please contribute what you can.

He’ll put Florida first, and can’t be bought by lobbyists. He’s a proven jobs creator, with 30 years of successful business experience. Jeff Kottkamp for Attorney General: Independent Statewide Polls Shows Jeff Kottkamp Leading In Race For Attorney General

August 19, 2010 Politics Comments Off

TALLAHASSEE– A new statewide poll of likely Florida voters shows Jeff Kottkamp with a significant 7 point lead in the race for the Republican nomination for Attorney General.

The poll conducted on behalf of Sunshine State News shows that for the first time, a candidate in the race is leading outside the margin of error.

“With just five days before the primary, this poll shows Lieutenant Governor Kottkamp has the momentum headed into Election Day. Undecided voters in this race have significantly narrowed and most of those Floridians have moved toward Jeff Kottkamp,” said Rockie Pennington, Kottkamp Campaign General Consultant. “It’s clear voters want someone with a proven record of experience instead of someone who just talks about what they’ll do in office.” … Continue Reading

Today’s the deadline. At midnight fundraising for the Primary is closed.  Please do what you can to help in these last remaining hours.

It’s been dubbed the year of the outsider.  But as election day draws near, voters are becoming increasingly wary of newcomers who spout conservative sound-bites but who fail to understand the issues and who have no track record on leadership.  The challenges we face are too important for us to gamble our future. … Continue Reading

Jeff Greene for U.S. Senate: Jeff Greene Truth Squad Exposes Do-Nothing Kendrick Meek’s Lies From Today’s Debate

August 15, 2010 Politics Comments Off

West Palm Beach, FL – During today’s debate, Kendrick Meek once again dodged accusations about his dealings with indicted developer Dennis Stackhouse, his role in lobbying for the tobacco industry to the detriment of Florida’s children, and the homeownership fairs that contributed subprime mortgages to a failing housing market. Also, with more than one million Floridians currently unemployed, Meek stated his top priority in the Senate would be filibuster reform. After the debate, Jeff Greene issued the following statement questioning Meek’s priorities and claims.

“Kendrick Meek has been in Congress for eight years and has not been able to pass one single bill, he has failed the people of Florida,” said Greene. “Kendrick may have endorsements but I have accomplishments. As Senator I will work for the people of Florida – unlike Kendrick Meek, who works for the special interests. With so many out of work, we need a proven jobs creator in the Senate, and my track record in business proves I will be able to accomplish my number one priority: getting Floridians back to work.” … Continue Reading

We’ve all heard enough. Enough of the bickering and name calling. Enough of the political mudslinging.

Jeff Greene for U.S. Senate: Jeff Greene Statement Opposing President Obama’s Support to Build a Mosque Near Site of 911 Tragedy

August 15, 2010 Politics Comments Off

West Palm Beach, FL – Today, Jeff Greene, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, issued the following statement opposing President Obama’s support for building a mosque near Ground Zero.

Said Greene,

“President Obama has this all wrong and I strongly oppose his support for building a mosque near Ground Zero especially since Islamic terrorists have bragged and celebrated destroying the Twin Towers and killing nearly 3,000 Americans.

“Freedom of religion might provide the right to build the mosque in the shadow of Ground Zero, but common sense and respect for those who lost their lives and loved ones gives sensible reason to build the mosque someplace else. … Continue Reading

Al Lawson for Congress: Happy Birthday Social Security!

August 15, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Today, we celebrate the 75th birthday of Social Security!

Social Security is one of the most successful social programs in the history of our nation. It has created a safety net for our senior citizens and allows countless Americans to retire with dignity. Join me today in pledging our support for this vital program and standing against any effort to privatize Social Security.

Over the past 75 years, Social Security has provided benefits to millions of Americans. In addition to retirement benefits for our senior citizens, Social Security’s supplemental programs have provided assistance to orphaned children and disabled Americans.

And the most important point to note is that Social Security is fiscally responsible. Since it was enacted in 1935, Social Security has never missed a scheduled payment to its beneficiaries and has never contributed to the federal deficit. The program pays for itself while taking care of our most vulnerable citizens.

But not everyone in Congress supports Social Security.

My opponent, 14-year Congressman Allen Boyd, opposes Social Security and was the only Democratic member of Congress to stand with George W. Bush when he tried to privatize the successful program. The bill, which Boyd cosponsored, would have steered public money from Social Security into risky, private Wall Street accounts.

Boyd’s bill was filed in 2005 – before the economy declined and the stock market crashed. Can you imagine the fiscal mess facing our nation if Bush and Boyd had been successful in steering our hard-earned tax dollars into Wall Street accounts?

Again, join me in celebrating the 75th birthday of one of America’s most successful social programs – SOCIAL SECURITY. And together, let’s continue to fight for this important social contract with America’s senior citizens.

Sincerely,

Al

P.S. – Join me in supporting America’s senior citizens and opposing Congressman Boyd’s radical plan to privatize Social Security!

Marco Rubio for U.S. Senate: Harry Reid Said What?

August 15, 2010 Politics Comments Off

“I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican” - Harry Reid

Yep. He said it. And he’s standing by it!

And Marco is speaking out against it because he knows that no matter what race, creed or ethnicity one is, it is the principles of limited government and individual freedom which define our movement and our party.

This is just the latest example of the wrong-minded, wrong-headed thinking coming out of Washington that we have to put an end to. Statements and leadership like Harry Reid’s will never get America back on the path to prosperity. We have no choice but to stand up and offer a better way.

And that’s just what Marco is doing and people all over the country are responding and standing with Marco! Over 93,000 people have watched Marco’s interview taking Harry Reid to task. Watch “Ridiculous” here and share with your friends.

Fight Harry Reid’s ridiculous and outrageous comments by standing with Marco today. Make your voice heard and donate to help Marco continue to stand up to the extreme liberal agenda and their narrow-minded thinking.

Proud to stand,

Team Rubio

With only 11 days until Election Day, I wanted to give you an update and pass along some information on how you can help. This primary election is a pivotal moment for our state. Voters have a clear choice. Rick Scott, conservative outsider you can trust, who has business experience, a specific plan to bring jobs and prosperity back to Florida, and will hold people accountable, or Bill McCollum, a career politician beholden to special interests and with no qualms about saying or doing anything to get elected.

As we work toward taking Tallahassee back from special interests who don’t look out for you, the first thing you can do is vote. Early voting has already begun and you can find your polling location here. … Continue Reading

Jeff Greene for U.S. Senate: Failed Career Politican Charlie Crist: Least Popular Governor in 16 Years

August 15, 2010 Politics Comments Off

55 Percent Of Floridians Disapprove Of Governor Crist

West Palm Beach, FL – With the release of today’s Mason-Dixon poll that shows Governor Crist at a record low approval rating, it has become clear that the people of Florida won’t be fooled by yet another flip-flopping career politician.

“Floridians should not be surprised that Governor Crist has the lowest approval rating of any Florida governor in 16 years. He bolted from the GOP when it became clear he wasn’t going to be the nominee for Republican Party of Florida. He’s since tried to reinvent himself as a centrist, and lied about his conservative stances on issues like off-shore oil drilling and a woman’s right to choose. Now, he’s running from photo op to photo op trying to salvage his career,” said Jeff Greene, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. “Governor Crist is another in a series of failed career politicians like Kendrick Meek and Marco Rubio that put their corrupt special interest cronies first and the people of Florida last.” … Continue Reading

Florida Democratic Party: The Numbers Don’t Lie: Toxic GOP Primary Burns Scott and McCollum

August 15, 2010 Politics Comments Off

As the Republican Primary for Governor comes close to the end and currently is too close to call, career politician Bill McCollum and disgraced executive Rick Scott have something in common – they are both becoming toxic in the eyes of Florida voters.

“Bill McCollum and Rick Scott have focused on nasty personal attacks instead of the issues that matter to Floridians, and this negative campaigning has exposed to Floridians just how flawed both of these politicians are.  Poll after poll clearly demonstrates that no matter which Republican is up, Floridians are down on both of them,” said Eric Jotkoff, spokesman for the Florida Democratic Party.  “No matter which candidate manages to drag himself out of this race to the bottom, it’s clear that he will have more scars in the eyes of the voters than time to rehabilitate himself.” … Continue Reading

Al Lawson for Congress: Friday the 13th reminds us of Allen Boyd’s SCARY record

August 15, 2010 Politics Comments Off

On this Friday the 13th, we are reminded of 14-year Congressman Allen Boyd’s very scary record in Washington. Boyd’s blind allegiance to the big special interests is absolutely terrifying!

Many citizens have voiced their concerns about Congressman Boyd’s special interest record.

SOCIAL SECURITY

Congressman Allen Boyd was the only Democrat in Congress to stand with George W. Bush in his push to privatize Social Security. As a Blue Dog Democrat who enjoys widespread support from Wall Street interests, Boyd cosponsored legislation that would have steered public money into Wall Street accounts. Boyd’s bill was filed prior to the economic recession.
