Statement by Governor Charlie Crist Regarding New Year’s Day

December 31, 2010 Government Comments Off

“New Year’s Day is a time to celebrate with family and friends, and to look towards the coming year with great anticipation. It is also a time to reflect on the past year and be thankful for our many blessings.

“I would like to thank the people of Florida for the honor and privilege of serving as Governor. There is no calling greater than public service, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked to improve the lives of the citizens of Florida and strengthen our state. I am proud of our many accomplishments, such as reducing the crime rate to a thirty-nine year low and taking steps to make government open and transparent.

“Since becoming Governor, our state and nation have experienced truly extraordinary times. From the most drastic economic challenges in decades, to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the people and businesses of Florida have faced tremendous economic strain. Yet, Floridians from across our state have demonstrated a tremendous spirit and resolve. It is their courage, talent and dedication that give me hope for Florida’s future.

“Carole and I wish you all a Happy New Year. I extend best wishes to Governor-Elect Rick Scott and pray for his success. May God continue to bless the great State of Florida.”
