Weekly Radio Address – Friday, January 28, 2011

Hi. This is Governor Rick Scott.

This week Florida mourned the loss of police officers in St. Petersburg and in Miami. These senseless crimes are heartbreaking, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families.  Please join me in showing gratitude for the men and women of law enforcement who risk their lives to protect ours.

During the past week, I continued my work to make sure Florida is the number-one state for job creation. I visited one of Florida’s 14 public deepwater seaports – the Port of Jacksonville. Florida’s ports are an important part our state’s economic engine.  I also visited the Publix Super Markets distribution center in Lakeland. While there, I toured a five-hundred-thousand square feet distribution center where goods are prepared for sale around the state.

Alex Sink for Governor: Fox News Poll

September 15, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Fox News released a poll yesterday showing me ahead of Rick Scott 49-41 percent.

You heard me right — it’s a Fox News poll. That’s the good news.

The bad news is the attack ads are well underway. Rick Scott, the Republican Governors Association, and Republican Party of Florida, are all running misleading TV ads attacking me.

They know my plans to grow our economy and improve our schools are resonating with voters. And they have decided that the only way they can make Rick Scott Governor is to malign me.

We have come too far and worked too hard to let their attack machine prevail. We are in this fight together and I need your help now more than ever.

Please contribute $10 or whatever you can today at:

http://www.alexsink2010.com/fightback

This Fox News poll is the third major poll this month that has me leading, and they all show the same thing. Independent voters support my campaign because they’re sick of Scott’s partisan attacks — they’re ready for a leader focused on Florida’s challenges who will lead with integrity.

I know we’ve asked a lot of you lately, which is why I’m so grateful for your support thus far. And time after time, you’ve come through.

Today I need you to dig down deep to make sure we have the resources to respond to those nasty attacks that are only meant to blunt our momentum.

Anything you can do to help out today is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex Sink

Alex Sink for Governor: Coming Together

September 11, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Today marks the ninth anniversary of the tragic events on September 11, 2001. It’s a time to remember the lives that were lost and cherish the brave men and women who make sacrifices every day to keep us safe.

This week, I had the opportunity to visit the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, where a piece of steel from the collapsed World Trade Center is on display as part of a permanent memorial. It serves as a constant reminder of a day we’ll never forget.

But September 11th isn’t a day marked solely by tragedy. It also marks a moment when we came together as a nation. When we were mourning and uncertain of what the future may hold, we relied on each other to get through one of the toughest moments in our history. And that made me proud to be an American. … Continue Reading

Rick Scott for Governor: RPOF Stateman’s Dinner Remarks

September 10, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Tonight I have the opportunity to address the outstanding leaders of our party at the RPOF Statesman’s Dinner. In case you are unable to attend, I want to share with you my prepared remarks on his momentous occasion. I am grateful for this opportunity to share my vision for Florida.

Sincerely,

Rick Scott
Prepared Remarks for the Statesman’s Dinner

Thank you for the warm reception! First I would like to introduce my wife, Ann, my daughter, Allison and her husband Pierre.

I also want to take a moment to introduce you to someone many of you already know – my running mate, State Representative Jennifer Carroll and her husband, Nolan.

Jennifer is smart, disciplined and willing to work hard, just as I will, to turn our state around.

It is a pleasure to be here tonight with the people who make the Florida Republican Party strong and successful. … Continue Reading

Alex Sink for Governor: What’s the difference?

September 7, 2010 Politics, Video Comments Off

It didn’t take long for Rick Scott to try to drag this campaign into the mud. It’s how he won the Republican Primary, and it’s how he thinks he can win the General.

Instead of focusing on the issues facing Florida, he’s spending all of his time talking about President Obama. It’s an attempt to hide from questions about his own record.

I’ve had enough of his brand of campaigning. And I’m calling him out on it in my new TV ad. We need a Governor who attacks Florida’s challenges, not one who bases his campaign on petty attacks. We’ve set a goal of raising $55,000 this week from grassroots supporters like you to make sure voters see the ad.

Click here to watch the ad and contribute to keep it on TV.

There are only eight weeks left in this campaign. The differences between my campaign and Rick Scott’s are becoming clearer every day.

But with supporters like you, I know that Floridians will hear the truth. And together we’ll get Florida back on the right track.

Thank you,

Alex Sink

Alex Sink for Governor: A Stronger Florida

September 6, 2010 Politics Comments Off

As you gather with your family and friends to celebrate Labor Day, please take a moment to recognize the hardworking men and women who drive our economy and make our state great.

Unfortunately, too many families in our state are struggling right now and over one million Floridians are unable to find a job.  Getting Floridians back to work and building a stronger, more stable economy for the future will be my top priority as Governor.

Rick Scott for Governor: This Labor Day

September 6, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Today we recognize the strength and commitment of our country’s workforce. Because of the dedication of the American worker, we have a great nation built through ingenuity, perseverance and determination. I am also reminded today of the though economic times we have all encountered and how vital the ability to find a job is to those who strive to achieve the American Dream.

As our state struggles though the highest unemployment rate on record, we must redouble our efforts to build an economy and business-friendly environment where employees are needed; and, as Governor that will be my highest priority. … Continue Reading

Rick Scott for Governor: 60 Days till Victory

September 3, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Today marks 60 days until the Obamacrats are defeated and my running mate, Rep. Jennifer Carroll, and I get to work turning Florida’s economy around.

We have a fight ahead of us exposing the failures and the business incompetence of my opponent, and we need you to support our campaign.

Jennifer and I are committed to traveling the state and spreading our 7-7-7 economic plan to create 700,000 jobs in 7 years by following 7 common sense steps. Our campaign has a strategy that I know will propel our GOP ticket to victory over the Obamacrats, but we need your support. … Continue Reading

Alex Sink for Governor: Lies and Distortions

September 3, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Today Bud Chiles announced his support of Alex’s campaign for Governor. He shares Alex’s vision for a better Florida. He also believes that she is the only candidate in this race with a detailed plan for Florida’s education system and the best plan for Florida’s economic future.

Alex understands that to rebuild our economy Florida must have strong public schools. Bud Chiles and independent voters agree and are moving to support Alex.

The positive response to our campaign already has Rick Scott on the attack.  The Republican Party has purchased millions of dollars in TV ads filled with lies and distortions.  This is only the beginning of the onslaught of attacks we expect. … Continue Reading

Bud Chiles Calls for “Stand by Your Ad” Law; Reveals “Florida’s Most Generous Political Address

August 26, 2010 Politics Comments Off

Millions legally “laundered” through small Tampa office

TAMPA – A small office on a quiet street in Tampa funnels millions of dollars into Florida’s political action committees (PACs), committees of continuous existence (CCEs) and so-called 527 electioneering communications organizations.  According to Bud Chiles, it also serves as a bricks-and-mortar testament to the shady nature of political giving in the Sunshine State.  State elections records show that 63 active and inactive political organizations are connected to Tampa’s 610 South Boulevard, either directly or through an accountant with that address.  The active groups have received contributions of over $21.7 million that can be pumped into Florida campaigns – in some cases without having to reveal where the money came from.

“Special interests have Florida’s government in a headlock.  Our campaign finance rules have essentially legalized money laundering,” according to Chiles, an independent candidate for governor.  “I’m a strong believer in free speech, but I also believe Floridians have a right to know who is speaking.” … Continue Reading

Rick Scott for Governor: Setting the Record Straight

August 24, 2010 Politics Comments Off

We would like the opportunity to address the email you received from Chairman Thrasher yesterday. We realize the Chairman has been a longtime ally of Bill McCollum’s and he has chosen to no longer be neutral in this race, but the facts are facts and should be made available to every Florida Republican.

First, Florida’s newspapers, most notably the St. Petersburg Times, have noted Bill McCollum’s reticence to investigate Jim Greer and his defense of Greer’s action to keep party records secret is not a matter of factual dispute.

Chairman Thrasher is understandably trying to put the Greer saga behind the state party and move forward – but denying facts to paint a better picture of Bill McCollum is the wrong way to do it. … Continue Reading

Rick Scott for Governor: From the Clear Choice Tour

August 21, 2010 Politics Comments Off

I just returned from traveling around the state with Rick, and I have to tell you I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for and excitement about Rick’s candidacy. The movement that you have helped us build is taking off – the people of Florida are recognizing the clear choice we face in this election.

Rick’s message is simple – if you are happy with the direction the state is headed, then vote for his opponent.  But, if you are looking for a conservative outsider who has a specific plan to create jobs and to change the way Tallahassee is run, then Rick Scott is your candidate.  On the campaign trail, you can really feel the support for this positive message. … Continue Reading

Alex Sink for Governor: Our First TV Ad

August 15, 2010 Politics, Video Comments Off

We’ve all heard enough. Enough of the bickering and name calling. Enough of the political mudslinging.

And not enough of what Florida needs.

My opponents have spent their time attacking each other and me, instead of talking about how they will attack the very real challenges facing our state. And I’m calling them on it!

Here’s my new ad — the first of my campaign. I wanted you to be one of the first to see it, before it hits the airwaves across Florida early tomorrow morning.

Watch the ad, then take a minute to forward it along to your friends and family.

Rick Scott for Governor: Update: 11 Days

August 15, 2010 Politics Comments Off

With only 11 days until Election Day, I wanted to give you an update and pass along some information on how you can help. This primary election is a pivotal moment for our state. Voters have a clear choice. Rick Scott, conservative outsider you can trust, who has business experience, a specific plan to bring jobs and prosperity back to Florida, and will hold people accountable, or Bill McCollum, a career politician beholden to special interests and with no qualms about saying or doing anything to get elected.

As we work toward taking Tallahassee back from special interests who don’t look out for you, the first thing you can do is vote. Early voting has already begun and you can find your polling location here. … Continue Reading
