Today, 17 of Adam Putnam’s colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives, all Republican members like Putnam, called for more near shore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
The story, as posted in the Sun-Sentinel read like a parody or an April Fool’s joke, “While Florida leaders try to fend off drilling rigs, House members from other Gulf states are clamoring to expand energy exploration near their oil-soaked shores.”
But it’s no joke!
While Putnam has still refused to condemn near shore drilling or sign the pledge in opposition, we now gain a glimpse of what his compatriots are thinking.
For those who think the BP disaster has put near shore drilling off the table, this story should serve as a wakeup call.
I firmly believe that once this crisis passes, Putnam and his colleagues will renew their push for drilling in Florida’s waters, putting our environment and our economy in grave risk. … Continue Reading
A new poll from Quinnipiac shows a dramatic 48-point drop in voters’ support of offshore oil drilling in Florida.
48 points and Congressman Putnam still refuses to oppose drilling in Florida waters. … Continue Reading
While the winds and currents have kept spilled oil off our beaches so far, news reports now show that the oil slick is expected to finally make landfall on the Florida Panhandle this weekend. Florida has already started to feel the economic effect, and time will only tell how much environmental devastation will occur.
This major setback follows news that the Florida House spent $200,000 of taxpayer money on a pro-oil sham study that claimed any oil spill would likely be “rare, small and easily contained.” This week, I called on the Republican Party of Florida to reimburse taxpayers for the money their leaders wasted on the study.
Meanwhile, it’s now been 32 days and Congressman Adam Putnam still refuses to sign my no-drilling pledge that other candidates for the Florida Cabinet have already signed. We have to keep letting Floridians know where he stands.
Contribute today to help us run online ads that will inform Floridians about Putnam’s position on offshore oil drilling.
Putnam has long been a supporter of expanded offshore oil drilling, including brokering a 2006 deal in Congress that allowed for drilling as close as 50 miles away from our coast. Incredibly, he still remains a proponent of drilling in the Gulf despite clear evidence that rigs hundreds of miles away can still threaten Florida’s beaches.
As you know, I’ve been against this from the very beginning. I went on the record in early November of last year opposing this very bad idea for Florida and that’s one of the many reasons why I’m running to be the next Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Thank you for standing with me.
Sincerely,
Scott Maddox

As we enjoy this Memorial Day with family and friends, let us not forget the sacrifices of the many men and women that have made our freedom possible.
My father joined the U.S. Army at the age of 16, and served as an Airborne Ranger in Korea. By the grace of God he was able to survive sustained combat, but so many of his fellow soldiers did not. They paid the ultimate price for us. This Memorial Day let us remember that freedom is not free- and the best way that we can say “Thank you” for such a priceless gift is to take the time to continue to work for a better state and nation. … Continue Reading

BARTOW, Fla – Today, Putnam for Commissioner of Agriculture Campaign Manager Trey McCarley issued the following statement on the lawsuit filed by Scott Maddox’s law firm which is attempting to make money off of tragedy.
“When in doubt, sue. As a result of his multiple losing campaigns for 3 of Florida’s 4 available cabinet positions, Scott Maddox has confused job descriptions for the one he’s running for this time. While oil continues to pour out of the earth at a rate of 210,000 gallons per day, Scott Maddox runs to the courthouse to sue someone, anyone, in a desperate attempt to make money from misery. … Continue Reading
