Gov. Scott: Florida Continues to Outpace the Nation with Nearly 17,000 New Jobs Added in June

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that Florida businesses have created 16,900 private-sector jobs in June and 172,600 in the past year, for a total of 1,554,800 jobs since December 2010. Florida’s annual job growth rate has outpaced the nation for 74 of the past 75 months. The only month that Florida did not exceed the nation was due to Hurricane Irma. In June, Florida’s unemployment rate remained at a low 3.8 percent, a drop of 7 percentage points since December 2010; this drop is faster than the national decline of 5.3 percentage points. Enterprise Florida Opens Pavilion at 2018 Farnborough International Airshow

This morning, Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI) opened the Florida Pavilion at the 2018 Farnborough International Airshow. The Florida Pavilion is again the largest exhibit of any U.S. state at the event, showcasing 12 Florida-based aviation and aerospace businesses and organizations. The Farnborough Airshow is one of the world’s largest industry events and will be open through July 22.

Lawmakers pushing to help Florida ports

U.S. Sens. Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) are pushing to increase business at Florida ports by urging the U.S. Department of Agriculture to restructure the way the agency charges ships to fumigate produce imported into the U.S.

Before a cargo ship offloads any imported produce arriving at a U.S. port, the shipment must first be inspected and fumigated. The fee that a ship pays to have their produce fumigated is set by USDA and is currently charged on a “per-enclosure basis” – meaning, a ship pays the same fee to fumigate a warehouse full of goods in the Northeast as they do to fumigate one shipping container in Florida.

Gov. Scott: Nearly Twenty Thousand New Jobs Means Real Results for Families

Governor Rick Scott today announced that Florida businesses have created 19,000 private-sector jobs in May and 179,000 in the past year, for a total of 1,539,800 jobs since December 2010. Florida’s annual job growth rate has outpaced the nation for 73 of the past 74 months. The only month that Florida did not exceed the nation was due to Hurricane Irma. In May, Florida’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.8 percent, a drop of 7.0 percentage points since December 2010; this drop is faster than the national decline of 5.5 percentage points.

Gov. Scott: VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering Creates 400 Jobs

New Hangar Opens at Pensacola International Airport

Governor Rick Scott attended the ribbon-cutting of VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering’s new hangar at the Pensacola International Airport. This brand new maintenance and engineering facility will add 400 new job opportunities for local families. The Florida Department of Transportation provided $23.8 million in grants to support this project.

Governor Rick Scott said, “Florida’s airports create jobs and welcome millions of visitors each year as our state continues break tourism records. We are working hard to make sure that every Florida family can get a job. Since December 2010, hardworking businesses have created more than 1.5 million jobs in Florida. We are proud to open this new facility in Pensacola today.”
