US 17 from the Hardee/Desoto County Line to Sweetwater Road (CR 634): Construction Project: Crews are widening US 17 from two lanes to four lanes, adding a grassed median and building new two-lane bridges over Charlie Creek and Charlie Creek Overflow. The contractor will also install new roadside drainage swales and storm water ponds to manage water running off the roadway. The contractor is Watson Civil Construction. SR 636 at SR 64: Construction project: Crews are building a new section of road to realign the SR 64 connection to SR 636. SR 64 is closed between the intersections of SR 636 (7 mile point) and Ed Wells Road to allow for these intersection improvements. During construction, the contractor will detour traffic 24 hours a day using SR 636 and US 17. Watch for lighted message boards and signs directing traffic around the work zone. Detour routes are in place to travel around the work zone. FDOT urges motorists to use the official detour route. Watch for crews and equipment working close to the road. US 17 from south of West 9th Street to north of West 3rd Street: Construction Project: Crews are constructing a new four-lane concrete roadway using the old railroad corridor along Oak Street to realign this 1-mile segment. The contractor is installing curb and gutter, 7-footbike lanes, sidewalks, and a 52-foot raised median to separate the northbound and southbound lanes of traffic. The project also includes installing a new underground drainage system and two storm water ponds to manage water running off of the roadway. Motorists should expect periodic lane closures for construction operations. Estimated completion is fall 2018.

Motorists traveling west on University Parkway (east of I-75) wishing to travel west through the interchange are directed to travel north on I-75, exit at westbound SR 70/Exit 217B, enter southbound I-75, and exit at University Parkway/Exit 213.
Motorists traveling east on University Parkway (west of I-75) wishing to travel east through the interchange are directed to travel south on I-75, exit at Fruitville Road/Exit 210, enter northbound I-75, and exit at University Parkway/Exit 213.

The contractor is installing water main and storm drain throughout the project, excavating earth material, removing the Acrow temporary bridge, restriping sections of University Parkway, constructing sidewalk and curb and gutter, painting the panels for the noise wall, installing permanent signalization, installing guardrail, and installing permanent signage. Improvements being made as part of this project consist of constructing a diverging diamond interchange, adding an auxiliary lane on northbound and southbound I-75, constructing new bridges on I-75 over University Parkway, widening of University Parkway, widening of I-75 bridges over Errie Creek and Foley Creek, realignment of on-ramps and off-ramps at I-75/University Parkway, addition of ponds, drainage improvements, new lighting and signalization, construction of a noise wall on the west side of I-75, sidewalks, bike lanes, and pedestrian walkways. US 301 at the Hernando Desoto Bridge: Construction project: Crews are installing pile jackets, making concrete repairs and repairing the bridge fender system. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Portions of Riverwalk along the seawall will be closed from early May through the end of August while crews are working on the seawall. Inland Construction and Engineering, Inc., is the contractor. SR 789 at the Longboat Key Bridge: Bridge maintenance project: Crews are working on the bridge. SR 684/Cortez Road at 20th Street W: Construction project: This project is to perform pedestrian improvements at the SR 684/Cortez Road at 20th Street W intersection; including, new pedestrian crossing ramps, crosswalks, and pedestrian signals. This week, crews will work on final punch list and site cleanup. Variable message signs are in place to alert drivers that work is underway. SR 70 at Greenbrook Boulevard West: Construction project: Crews are installing a new traffic signal, crosswalks with pedestrian signals, and street lighting at the intersection. Motorists should expect daytime or nighttime lane closures; therefore, drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. This week, crews will be installing lighting, road striping, and working daytime and overnight on the traffic signal. Expected completion is spring 2017. SR 78 over the Kissimmee River Bridge: Construction Project: Crews are repairing the SR 78 Bridge over the Kissimmee River in Okeechobee County. Improvements to the bridge include updating the bridge infrastructure, replacing the deck grating and refreshing the paint. Motorists should expect periodic eastbound and westbound lane closures to allow for crews to make these updates to the bridge. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. The travel lane will be 12 feet during construction, so wide loads will not be able to cross the bridge. Motorists should expect delays and be aware of crews working close to the road. US 441 between NW 9th Street and NW 7th Street: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect a single lane closure on northbound and southbound US 441 between NW 9th Street and NW 7th Street on Thursday, March 30th, 2017 from 8:00 am to approximately 3:00 pm. SR 70 from NE 13th Avenue east to NE 34th: Avenue: Maintenance project: Crews are spraying herbicide on the sidewalks on both the north and south side of SR 70 during the day. Use caution while traveling through this area
SR 70 from NE 31st Avenue to Berman Road: Construction project: Crews are preparing the eastbound roadway for paving, completing subgrade, finishing base rock, installing drainage, placing embankment and grading shoulders. Workers are installing handrail and barrier wall at the Mosquito Creek Bridge and forming and pouring substructure at the L63 Canal Bridge, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, weather permitting.

US 441 from South of NE 224th Street to South of NE 304th Street: Construction project: This 5.378 mile project consists of milling and resurfacing, base work, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, signing and pavement marking and signalization. Crews will be installing construction signs and erosion control measures. Expected project completion is summer 2017. The Contractor is Lynch Paving Construction Co. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the work zone.
POLK COUNTY
I-4 from the east end of the Polk Parkway to Osceola County line: Construction project: Crews are installing a new Fog/Low Visibility Detection System on Interstate 4 from the east end of the Polk Parkway to the Osceola County line. Expect intermittent shoulder closures and trucks entering and leaving the highway throughout the project. Speeding fines double when workers are present.
Improvements under this contract include installing wind, precipitation, visibility and atmospheric sensors, thermal infrared cameras, flashing beacon signs and replacing the amber dynamic message signs with full-color dynamic message signs. Expected completion is fall 2017. The contractor is Transcore ITS.
US 98 at Marcum Road: Maintenance permit project: Watch for periodic daytime lane closures southbound as crews begin removing the existing paved shoulder and building a new turn lane. Use caution and be prepared to merge.
US 92 (SR 600) from Reynolds Road to Schalamar Creek Entrance: Construction project: Traffic on U.S. 92 from Reynolds Road to Schalamar Creek Drive reduces to one lane in each direction and shifts entirely onto the existing eastbound lanes while crews work on the westbound lanes. Driveway and side street access will be limited, so drivers need to be prepared to make U-Turns at the beginning and end of the project. The temporary lanes will not accommodate wide loads, so wide load haulers should seek alternate routes. This traffic pattern will remain in place through early May 2017.
Improvements on this project consist of milling and paving, base work, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, guardrail, sidewalks, signing & pavement markings and replacing the existing US 92 bridges over the Lake Parker Drainage Canal and Saddle Creek. The expected completion date is summer 2017. The contractor is Commercial Industrial Corporation.
US 92 from Berkley Road to Walker Road and from Jersey Road to US 27: Maintenance contracts project: Watch for intermittent shoulder closures as well as periodic lane closures as needed, with trucks entering and leaving the highway, as crews repair pipes, mitered end sections, driveways and complete paving. The contractor is Evans Contracting. Expected completion is spring 2017.

SR 60 traffic reduces to one lane in each direction and shifts entirely onto the existing eastbound lanes while crews mill and resurface the westbound lanes from Jimmy’s store to Sam Keen Rd. SR 17 (South 10th Street) at SR 544/CR 544: Construction project: Watch for single daytime and nighttime lane closures and traffic shifts on SR 544/CR 544 both east and westbound Sunday, April 23 through Saturday, April 29. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.
Crews will close the eastbound SR 544 to southbound SR 17 right turn lane, Friday, April 28 through Monday, May 1, while crews repair and pour curb at the southwest corner of the intersection. Motorists may turn southbound from the travel lane.
Crews will also close Verano Drive at CR 544 periodically as needed through the end of April for paving and striping. The closures will occur during the day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with workers reopening the road nightly.

The contractor is installing water main and storm drain throughout the project, excavating earth material, removing the Acrow temporary bridge, restriping sections of University Parkway, constructing sidewalk and curb and gutter, painting the panels for the noise wall, installing permanent signalization, installing guardrail, and installing permanent signage. US 41/Venice By-Pass from Gulf Coast Boulevard to Bird Bay Drive: Construction project: Crews continue installing utility and storm drain systems and constructing temporary pavement. Expect intermittent nighttime/overnight northbound and southbound lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. throughout the project limits while crews are working.
Ridgewood Avenue at US 41: Ridgewood Avenue at US 41 closed to thru traffic on Monday, March 6 for approximately five weeks. A detour is in place using East Venice Avenue.
Motorists should be mindful of the construction signs in place and traffic control officers and use caution while traveling through the project area. Bergeron Land Development is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2018.
US 41 over Myakkahatchee Creek: Construction project: Crews are constructing new pedestrian overpasses over Myakkahatchee Creek; improving drainage; installing guardrail, and constructing new sidewalk. US 41 from Browning Street to 11th Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway; installing new drainage; installing highway lighting, curb and gutter; constructing new sidewalk, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on US 41; US 301; Fruitville Road, and Orange Avenue while crews are working. Preferred Materials, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2017.
SR 789 at New Pass Bridge: Construction project: Crews are updating the Bridge Tender house, electrical and mechanical components, and traffic gates on New Pass Bridge. Sidewalk improvements are included as well. As part of ongoing construction and to test the new electrical and mechanical components, the contractor is required to open the bridge four times per day. In an effort to minimize impacts to the public, the contractor will complete the required daily four openings between 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday through Sunday. If the required number of openings cannot be obtained during this time period the contractor will use openings during the day during normal boat traffic. The testing period is expected to last through mid-May. Quinn Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2017.
SR 789/John Ringling Parkway at Bird Key: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing sidewalk, installing landscaping and irrigation. Expect possible daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, April 28. Use caution and expect possible delays.
SR 776 between Dartmouth Street and Jacaranda Boulevard: Maintenance contracts project: Crews are performing storm water pipe cleaning through late May. Expect intermittent daytime and nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Use caution and expect possible delays.
SR 758/Bee Ridge Road/Osprey Avenue from Siesta Drive to Dunn Drive: Construction project: The traffic currently shifts to the north from US 41/Tamiami Trail to west of Shade Avenue. The south sidewalk remains closed in this area behind the barrier wall & is part of the construction zone. Pedestrians must use the north sidewalk from US 41/Tamiami Trail to Shade Avenue.
Traffic is shifted to the south from Shade Avenue east to McIntosh Road as crews install storm drainage in selected areas on the north side of the roadway. The north sidewalk is closed in these locations and pedestrians will be directed to the new sidewalk on the south side of Bee Ridge Road. The bi-directional turn lane is closed east of Shade to mark the traffic shift. Drivers headed east should use the signalized intersections to make a U-turn to access businesses on the north side.
Please stay alert for intermittent lane closures as well as slow moving construction vehicles throughout the project. Motorists should plan additional travel time and exercise caution as the construction operation progresses across driveways and side streets.
Side Street and Driveway Advisories: Completion of the storms drainage, curb and sidewalk construction continue on the south side of Bee Ridge Road. Water main work for the city of Sarasota is on-going as well. Crews are also preparing the roadbed for paving and there will be intermittent side street closures throughout the west end of the project. Please stay alert for those temporary closures. Please watch for driveway closures as well through this area. Alternate driveway access is provided where needed for businesses.
Crews are working on the north side of Bee Ridge installing storm drainage as well as preparing specific areas for paving. Riviera Drive, Radnor Place and Belmont Boulevard continue to see closures, one at a time, to accomplish this work. Motorists should pay special attention throughout this project and follow the detour signage in place to access streets to and from Bee Ridge Road.
The project consists of significant drainage improvements, removing old asphalt and resurfacing the roadway, reconstructing sidewalk, and installing new signalization in some areas.
