Connie Mack Endorses Gregory

Posted on May 29, 2018

Today, the Tommy Gregory Campaign announced the endorsement of former U.S. Senator Connie Mack, who represented Florida for two terms. Gregory continues to consolidate the support of area Republican leaders in his run for the District 73 seat in the Florida House of Representatives, currently held by Joe Gruters, who is running for the Florida Senate.

“Tommy Gregory is a patriot and a proven leader,” said Mack. “His military experience has effectively prepared him to enter this new sphere of public service, and there’s no question in my mind that he will be an outstanding and effective legislator. I wholeheartedly endorse him and urge all District 73 voters to support him.”

Mack served two terms representing Florida in the U.S. Senate, where he was Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference. Prior to that he served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 1989. A cancer survivor, Mack led a bipartisan effort in the Senate to double funding for biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health, and he was instrumental in the passage of the Everglades Restoration Act. He was a co-author of the Gramm-Rudman budget deficit reduction law. In 2005, President George W. Bush appointed him as Chair of the President’s Advisory Panel for Federal Tax Reform.

“It is an honor to have Senator Mack’s support,” said Gregory. “He has long been one of Florida’s most respected leaders, and his life has been a model of public service. I look forward to following his example and to working with him and other like-minded public servants to make the Sunshine State an even better place to live.”

Mack joins a number of other prominent Florida leaders who have recently endorsed Gregory, including former State Senator Lisa Carlton, State Representative Danny Burgess, Sarasota Sheriff Tom Knight, and former Manatee Sheriff Brad Steube.
