Today, the Manny Diaz Campaign announced the endorsement of Senator Rene Garcia, who currently holds the District 36 seat in the Florida Senate that Diaz is seeking. Diaz has represented District 103 in the Florida House of Representatives since 2012. Garcia joins a number of other key Miami-Dade leaders in backing Diaz’s candidacy.
“Manny Diaz is a proven and effective leader,” said Garcia. “I have worked with Manny for a number of years, and I know his dedication to his constituents and our community. His leadership on education issues as well as his consistent support for policies that strengthen our economy make him the right fit for District 36, and I’m proud to support him and encourage all District 36 voters to do the same.”
Garcia has served in the Florida Senate since 2010. Prior to that, he served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008. In the Senate, he chairs the Committee on Children, Families, and Elder Affairs and is Vice Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Finance and Tax. He was a City of Hialeah Councilman from 1997 to 1999.
“For more than two decades, Rene Garcia has been an effective public servant,” said Diaz. “I am grateful for his friendship and support, and I’m honored by his vote of confidence in me. He has a track record of outstanding leadership, and I look forward to continuing the excellent representation he delivered for District 36.”
Garcia’s endorsement closely follows a recent spate of endorsements from Miami-Dade mayors, including Mayor Carlos Hernandez of Hialeah; Mayor JC Bermudez of Doral; Mayor Yioset De La Cruz of Hialeah Gardens; Mayor Manny Cid of Miami Lakes; Mayor Roberto Martell of Medley; and Mayor Francis Suarez of Miami.
