Leadership Florida Honors the Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network (JASMYN)

Posted on June 18, 2018

Leadership Florida® presented JASMYN with the 2018 Florida Regional Impact Award Saturday during its Annual Meeting.  This award recognizes a business or nonprofit organizations that has created a specific project or body of work whose impact is currently transforming the future of its region and has the potential to transform Florida as a whole.

Now in its 24th year, JASMYN provides LGBTQ young people between the ages of 13 and 23 with the services needed to affirm their identity, overcome obstacles, and thrive as young adults.  JASMYN supports and empowers LGBTQ young people by creating a safe environment, and providing health and wholeness services, as well as offering youth development opportunities. The organization strives to bring people and resources together to promote equality and human rights.

Through 2018, JASMYN’s Board of Directors has identified the following strategic priorities:

  • Expand access to medical care, mental health services, and housing
  • Deepen the HIV prevention and HIV/AIDS support services offered
  • Elevate equality education and advocacy for human rights

With a growing campus and the strategic direction from the Board in hand, JASMYN is building its internal capacity and external community partnerships to address these strategic priorities and the basic needs of LGBTQ youth and young adults.   JASMYN’s multi-pronged approach to directly addressing the challenges impacting LGBTQ young adults is a model for Florida.

Leadership Florida is proud to honor JASMYN with its 2018 Florida Regional Impact Award.
