Together We Make Community Happen is The Volen Center’s mission, and they are helping many Broward County senior adults take charge of their lives with year-round educational programs. As a participant in the Center’s recent Older Americans Month event, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is recognizing The Volen Center as its second 2018 Helping Hand.
“Providing essential, educational information to the senior community is important to keep them active and engaged,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “The PSC thanks The Volen Center for the educational opportunity to help their clients learn fraud prevention tips and conservation strategies to better manage their utility bills.”
Each quarter, the PSC highlights a partner agency or organization whose clients are eligible for the federal Lifeline telephone/broadband discount program or need help reducing energy and water bills. Through these PSC Helping Hand partnerships, the Commission shares information to help consumers avoid scams and stretch their resources to meet monthly bills.
“We provide a variety of educational, enriching opportunities as well as stimulating discussion at The Volen Center,” said Jared Policano, Chief Operating Officer. “The PSC’s visit during May’s Older Americans Month reminded us that we’re never too old to gain knowledge about Florida’s utility industry and help protect us against fraud.”
