Attorney General Bondi’s Statement Regarding New Rx Opioid Law

Posted on July 2, 2018

Attorney General Pam Bondi today issued the following statement regarding HB 21 going into effect. The new law places limits on the volume of prescription opioids doctors can write patients for acute pain, in an effort to prevent opioid addiction:

“We continue to fight the national opioid crisis claiming 175 American lives every day, and these new limits on prescription pain killers will help bolster our efforts. I want to thank Representative Jim Boyd and Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto for sponsoring this legislation and Governor Rick Scott for supporting our efforts to fight the opioid crisis and save lives. All doctors should be on notice that these new restrictions will be strictly enforced—if any doctor prescribes you anything over the prescribed limit, please contact my office at 1(866) 9NO-SCAM.”
