As reports surfaced today that Republican candidates for Attorney General accepted campaign donations from private prison contractors, Democratic Attorney General candidate Sean Shaw offered the following statement:
“As children continue to be held in ICE detention centers all over the country, scared and isolated from their parents, my Republican opponents continue to accept campaign donations from the very corporations managing those facilities. I have pledged to reject any donations from private prison corporations — and as Attorney General, I’ll join the lawsuits against the inhumane policies that benefit them.”
Neither Republican candidate has pledged to join seventeen other state attorneys general in a lawsuit against the President’s “zero tolerance” immigration and separation policy.
