Florida Senate President Joe Negron (R-Stuart) released the following statement regarding today’s announcement that the White House has approved the Army Corps of Engineers’ request to seek approval from Congress for the Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir approved by the Florida Legislature in Senate Bill 10 (2017).
“I want to first thank the White House, Governor Scott, and Senator Rubio for today’s milestone announcement approving Senate Bill 10’s Everglades Agricultural Area Southern Reservoir. This reservoir is an indispensable component to finally eliminating the harmful discharges from Lake Okeechobee that are polluting our estuaries and waterways. I look forward to securing the federal funds to match Florida’s approved budget for this project. There is no reason we cannot begin the initial permitting and engineering for the reservoir within the next few months. This is an emergency; time is of the essence.”
