An Online Checkup Could Prevent Trouble on Election Day

Florida voters only have a few more days to make sure they’re ready to vote in the August 28th primary. July 30th is the deadline to register or make any changes to your voter registration. The League of Women Voters of Florida (LWVFL) is urging all voters to do an advance checkup to ensure all their information is accurate.

“The right to vote is too precious to take for granted,” said Patricia Brigham, president of LWVFL. “A quick check today can prevent headaches on Election Day and most importantly, ensure your access to the ballot box.”

A new online system is supposed make it much easier for Floridians to register and keep their information up to date. Unfortunately, a number of voters are reporting problems in updating their records at RegisterToVoteFlorida.org.

“If voters are experiencing problems we want to help ensure they are resolved well before Election Day,” Brigham said. “If you’re unable to update your records online, you’ll need to go to your local Supervisor of Elections to make the change.”

In addition to streamlining registration for new voters, the website can also make it easier for the growing number of Floridians without any party affiliation to have a voice in the primaries. They can go online ahead of the deadline to register either as a Republican or Democrat to take part in that party’s primary.

LWVFL is asking anyone who is unable to process their information on the website to get a “screen capture” image of the error message. In addition to mailing a copy of that error message to the State Division of Elections at the address provided below, voters should email it to [email protected] so that the League can press for an immediate resolution.
