Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) and Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) today released a new video produced in recognition of Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day, which is this Sunday, Aug. 26. The video features photos of Florida public power lineworkers, as well as lineworkers from mutual aid electric utilities, in action conducting day-to-day operations, participating in national and state competitions and managing post-hurricane power restoration efforts.
Posted on both organizations’ social media platforms, the video can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/FloridaMunicipalPowerAgency and facebook.com/floridapublicpower, and also on Twitter at twitter.com/fmpanews and twitter.com/flpublicpower.
The video follows another joint effort by FMEA and FMPA to honor lineworkers during the month of August. A social media campaign called “Celebrating our Hometown Heroes” recognizes individual lineworkers from Florida’s public power communities through graphics featuring their photos and biographical information.
Members of the public are encouraged to use their own social media accounts to recognize Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day by sharing this video, sharing “Celebrating our Hometown Heroes” campaign graphics, writing notes of thanks to lineworkers employed by their local utility and using the hashtags #ThankALineman, #LineLife and #LineworkerAppreciationDay.
There are more than 1,000 lineworkers serving Florida’s 34 public power communities. In 2012, the Florida House of Representatives designated Aug. 26 as Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day – a date that was selected in remembrance of Marc Moore, a lineworker for Lakeland Electric, who was tragically killed on the job in 2002.
