Democratic Nominee for Attorney General Sean Shaw had this to say at today’s press conference:
“Pam Bondi has wasted millions of taxpayer dollars defending ridiculous appeals that deny so many needy Floridian’s access to smokable marijuana; appeals that she knows are meritless and contrary to the will of the voters. In fact, Judges have repeatedly ruled against Pam Bondi’s appeals, leaving many to ask, why are we continuing to fight a losing battle. The public has made very clear that they don’t support the appeals filed by Pam Bondi, but still, she continues to file the appeals. The day I take office those appeals will end. It’s time to make a change and move away from the type of policies and provisions that politicians like Pam Bondi and my opponent Ashley Moody, offer. It’s time to make a change to the way the Attorney General’s office is run, and return it to the hands of the people.”
About Sean Shaw
Raised in North Florida, Representative Sean Shaw was taught the importance of public service from a young age by his father, Leander Shaw, the first African-American Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court. During law school at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, Sean clerked for a United States District Court judge focusing on constitutional law and the protection of civil rights. After law school, Sean worked in private practice representing workers, families, and small businesses during some of their most trying times.
As Florida’s Insurance Consumer Advocate, Sean was an insurance industry watchdog protecting consumers against abuses from insurers. He led the process of negotiating lower rates for homeowners, pushed for faster response times from insurers after emergencies, and ensured rates were fair and justified. He currently represents State House District 61 in Tampa, where he has fought for more funding for public education, for criminal justice reforms, and for common sense gun safety legislation to make communities safer. Sean has been endorsed by national organizations such as MoveOn.Org and Moms Demand Action, and Florida based organizations like the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida, Florida AFL-CIO, and SEIU Florida.
