The New Yorker highlights Sean Shaw’s Intentions to Investigate Donald Trump

Posted on October 5, 2018

In an article published today, The Democratic candidate for Attorney General, Sean Shaw speaks to The New Yorker about his intention to investigate President Donald Trump’s seemingly unlawful profiteering and financial dealings in Florida.

Democratic Nominee for Attorney General Sean Shaw had this to say:

“Sean Shaw, the Democratic candidate for state attorney general in Florida, has a message for Donald Trump. If elected, Shaw will investigate the President’s financial activities across the Sunshine State. “We’ll pursue any area that is worthy of pursuit,” Shaw told me in an interview this week. “The charity not being charitable. Trump Mar-a-Lago and emoluments.” Shaw told me he would go “where the law takes me.” He plans to investigate whether “the President of the United States is personally profiting from the Presidency in Florida…”

Shaw also said that he will investigate reports that a Trump-branded development project in Sunny Isles, Florida, bears hallmarks of possible money laundering. Shaw made clear that his investigations would be broad and open-ended: “They may lead you to tax returns, financial records. I don’t know where they lead. No one is above the law in Florida. No one. We are going to make it such that if I find bad stuff going on, we’re going to go where it takes us, no matter how big.”

About Sean Shaw
Raised in North Florida, Representative Sean Shaw was taught the importance of public service from a young age by his father, Leander Shaw, the first African-American Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court. During law school at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, Sean clerked for a United States District Court judge focusing on constitutional law and the protection of civil rights. After law school, Sean worked in private practice representing workers, families, and small businesses during some of their most trying times.

As Florida’s Insurance Consumer Advocate, Sean was an insurance industry watchdog protecting consumers against abuses from insurers. He led the process of negotiating lower rates for homeowners, pushed for faster response times from insurers after emergencies, and ensured rates were fair and justified. He currently represents State House District 61 in Tampa, where he has fought for more funding for public education, for criminal justice reforms, and for common sense gun safety legislation to make communities safer. Sean has been endorsed by national organizations such as MoveOn.Org and Moms Demand Action, and Florida based organizations like the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida, Florida Conservation Voters, Florida AFL-CIO, and SEIU Florida.
