FDOT’s Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) members will be participating at over 80 elementary and middle schools in the District Four counties of Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River.

We encourage all parents and grandparents to walk to and from school with your child/children on this day.

All participating children will receive reflective safety gear and a participation Certificate.

CTST members represent local law enforcement agencies, school crossing guards and resource officers, PTAs, local government and county MPOs/TPOs

International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day.

Walking and bicycling to school enables children to incorporate the regular physical activity they need each day while also forming healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Regular physical activity helps children build strong bones, muscles and joints, and it decreases the risk of obesity. In contrast, insufficient physical activity can contribute to chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and stroke.

For additional information please contact FDOT District Four Safety Officer, Ms. Carmen Blades, at (954) 777-4362, or [email protected].  To see if your local school is participating, please click here.
