Multi-State Heroin Trafficker Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison

Posted on October 23, 2018

Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Office of Statewide Prosecution today secured the sentencing of a Florida man convicted of heroin trafficking. The Honorable Steven B. Whittington, Circuit Judge for the Fourth Judicial Circuit, sentenced defendant Joseph Walker to 25 years on trafficking in heroin 28 grams or more and 10 years concurrent on the sale or delivery of heroin.

On Oct. 3, a Duval County jury convicted Walker, 75, on charges related to trafficking large quantities of heroin. The jury found the defendant guilty as charged on the two counts.

The investigation revealed Walker sold multiple ounces of heroin. Walker gave a small sample of heroin directly to an undercover Drug Enforcement Administration informant at a café in Melbourne, Fla. Two days later, the defendant sold a larger amount of heroin, roughly 84 grams, to the same informant. Walker was arrested at the scene after delivering the heroin.

The defendant’s criminal activity spanned across several Florida counties including Brevard, Columbia, Duval and Miami-Dade, along with involvement in St. Louis, Missouri. An additional case in Columbia County is on hold regarding the defendant’s involvement trafficking in cocaine 400 grams or more.

OSP worked with the DEA, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Melbourne Police Department and other agencies throughout Florida. Assistant Statewide Prosecutors JoAnna Piscitello and Matthew Davenport litigated the case.
