EFI Opens Florida Pavilion at MEDICA

Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI) opened the Florida Pavilion this week at MEDICA, the world’s largest medical trade show. Florida is represented by a record number of Florida-based companies, and this year also marks the 30th consecutive year Florida has attended the show.

“We are so appreciative of the companies that are joining EFI at MEDICA this year,” said Joe York, Vice-Chairman of Enterprise Florida’s Board of Directors. “Events like MEDICA help Florida’s small and medium-sized businesses expand internationally and showcase their products and services to the life science industry. I wish the companies attending MEDICA great success this week.”

Last year, Florida companies that attended MEDICA reported more than $122 million in sales following the show.

Nearly 30,000 Floridians work in biotechnology, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and medical device manufacturing industries. Florida boasts the 2nd largest medical device manufacturing and 2nd largest pharmaceuticals manufacturing industries in the United States.

Florida is a leader in workforce for the health and medical industry. Florida’s schools, community colleges, and universities are among the nation’s top producers of STEM graduates. In 2018, U.S. News & World Report ranked Florida the No. 1 state for higher education for the second consecutive year.

EFI maintains an extensive schedule of overseas trade missions and exhibitions worldwide. Last year, merchandise trade valued at $147.7 billion flowed through Florida’s ports with Florida-origin exports reaching $55 billion. Florida exported more goods than 190 countries in 2017, making the state one of the world’s leaders in international trade.

*An additional 26 Florida companies coordinating with EFI are exhibiting at MEDICA as well.
