Floridians for Reproductive Freedom launches new online home for Florida’s abortion rights movement

Posted on November 29, 2018

The Floridians for Reproductive Freedom coalition (FRF) has launched the new online home and resource center for Florida’s reproductive rights movement at FloridaReproFreedom.org. A thriving coalition of more than 50 organizations, FRF advocates for access to the full range of reproductive health care – from abortion to birth control to evidence-based sex education.

This new web resource offers:

  • Speaker’s Bureau: Aimed at helping media outlets and event organizers reflect the diverse voices in Florida’s reproductive rights movement, this registry lists knowledgeable and accomplished advocates, highlighting their areas of expertise. “The FRF Speaker’s Bureau provides media outlets, as well as meeting and conference organizers, with access to speakers on reproductive health, rights, and justice,” said Charo Valero, Florida State Policy Director for National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health. “We are committed to raising awareness and reducing stigma associated with abortion.”
  • Video on Fake Clinics in Florida: The website features a new short film by FRF partner, Progress Florida, that exposes fake clinics, sometimes called crisis pregnancy centers or CPCs. “Numbering nearly 200 in Florida, fake clinics use phony ads to trick pregnant women into making an appointment, promising ‘free ultrasounds’ or ‘pregnancy support’,” said Amy Weintraub, Reproductive Rights Program Director for Progress Florida. “Once inside, people are lied to, shamed, and pressured about their reproductive health decisions, often delaying their procedure or pushing them past the deadline for a legal abortion.”
  • Current Reproductive Rights Issues and Events: Visitors to the website can glean information on initiatives that advance the social and economic benefits of reproductive freedom. They also can learn about flawed programs and policies pushed by anti-abortion organizations and policy-makers. Action steps are offered.

“Planned Parenthood is proud to partner with more than 50 organizations in Florida committed to standing up for women and families and their right to reproductive health care,” said Laura Goodhue, Executive Director of the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates. “This clearinghouse of resources, information and speakers now makes the needed tools to effectively advocate available to every Floridian who wants to join our cause.”
