One of Kimball Electronics’ guiding principles states, “The environment as our home.” Living up to this belief, its Tampa manufacturing facility has reduced its carbon footprint to save more than 42,000 kWh annually. These Energy Efficiency Efforts have earned Kimball Electronics Tampa the Florida Public Service Commission’s (PSC) December 2018 Triple E Award.
“We applaud Kimball Electronics for improving its overall energy efficiency effectiveness,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “Even better, they are encouraging and involving their employees in their innovative efforts, while further reducing overhead on their product delivery.”
Kimball Electronics implemented energy conservation measures to optimize its compressed air system and upgrade facility controls. The facility also participated in Tampa Electric Company’s (TECO) Cool Roof rebate program, upgrading 149,500 square feet of roof space that saved $44,850 as a result of utility rebates and saved $3,500 in annual energy costs, or 42,121 kWh of energy use. This project alone reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 25.9 tons of CO2, 83.40 pounds of NOx, and 133.94 pounds of SOx.
“We’re honored to receive the PSC’s Triple E Award and thank Tampa Electric for its continued efforts to help us improve our energy and demand usage,” said Yaron Segal, Facility Maintenance and Safety, Kimball Electronics Tampa. “It’s a team effort. Our employees have helped by identifying wasteful use and proposing energy saving measures. Energy efficiencies are a worthwhile investment that can reduce operating costs and wasted resources.”
“The energy experts at Tampa Electric have been helping customers to use energy wisely for nearly 40 years. We encourage other manufacturers to take the same steps that Kimball Electronics has taken to reduce their energy usage and save on energy costs,” said Nancy Tower, president and chief executive officer of Tampa Electric. “Tampa Electric is proud to offer more energy-efficiency programs than any other investor-owned electric utility in the state of Florida.”
Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each quarter the PSC presents its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency.
