Gov. Scott: Orlando Created 315,400 New
Private-Sector Jobs Since Dec. 2010
Governor Rick Scott today announced that November 2018 marked 44 consecutive months of the Orlando area having the highest job creation in the state, adding 60,800 new private-sector jobs in the past year, making the total number of new private-sector jobs created in the Orlando area 315,400 since December 2010. The unemployment rate in Orlando was 2.7 percent, down 0.8 percentage point from one year ago. Statewide, Florida businesses created 23,000 new jobs in November bringing the total number of new private-sector jobs created in Florida to 1,673,500 since December 2010.

The industries with the highest growth over the year in the Orlando area were leisure and hospitality with 16,200 new jobs, professional and business services with 15,700 new jobs and construction with 11,100 new jobs.
In November, the Orlando area was second among state metro areas in job demand with 46,128 job openings. Orlando also remained the second-highest metro area in demand for high-skill, high-wage STEM occupations with 13,759 openings.
Florida’s unemployment rate of 3.3 percent represents a drop of 7.5 percentage points since December 2010; this drop is faster than the national decline of 5.6 percentage points. This is while 116,000 people entered Florida’s labor force, a growth of 1.1 percent in the past year. Florida’s annual job growth rate of 3.3 percent continues to exceed the nation’s rate of 1.9 percent.

Gov. Scott: Tampa Bay Area Created 243,800
New Private-Sector Jobs Since Dec. 2010
Governor Rick Scott today announced that the Tampa area added 28,400 new private-sector jobs in the last year, creating the second-highest number of jobs among all Florida metro areas, making the total number of new private-sector jobs created in the Tampa area 243,800 since December 2010. Tampa’s unemployment rate was a low 3.0 percent, down 0.6 percentage point from one year ago. Statewide, Florida businesses created 23,000 new jobs in November bringing the total number of new private-sector jobs created in Florida to 1,673,500 since December 2010.

The industry with the highest growth over the year in the Tampa area was education and health services with 10,600 new jobs.
The Tampa area remained first among the state metro areas in job demand in November with 56,469 openings. The Tampa area also continues to rank first in the state in demand for high-skill, high-wage STEM occupations with 18,907 openings in November.

Governor Rick Scott today announced that the Miami area added 24,200 new private-sector jobs in the last year, creating the third-highest number of jobs among all Florida metro areas, making the total number of new private-sector jobs created in the Miami area 210,200 since December 2010. Miami’s unemployment rate was a low 3.2 percent, down 1.3 percentage points from one year ago. Statewide, Florida businesses created 23,000 new jobs in November bringing the total number of new private-sector jobs created in Florida to 1,673,500 since December 2010.

The industries with the highest growth over the year in the Miami area were construction with 7,900 new jobs and education and health services with 7,100 new jobs.
Miami continued to rank third among the state’s metro areas in job demand with 36,278 openings in November, and once again offered the third-highest number of high-skill, high-wage STEM jobs with 8,862 online ads.

Fort Lauderdale’s unemployment rate dropped to a low 2.8 percent in November, down 0.8 percentage point from one year ago. Statewide, Florida businesses created 23,000 new jobs in November bringing the total number of new private-sector jobs created in Florida to 1,673,500 since December 2010.

The industries with the highest growth over the year in the Fort Lauderdale area were trade, transportation and utilities with 3,700 new jobs, professional and business services with 3,700 new jobs and construction with 3,300 new jobs.

The Fort Myers area added 9,000 new private-sector jobs in the past year, making the total number of new private-sector jobs created in the Fort Myers area 64,000 since December 2010.The area’s unemployment rate was 2.9 percent in November, down 0.8 percentage point in the past year.
