Gadsden County Senior Center Named PSC Helping Hand

Posted on December 21, 2018

The Gadsden County Senior Center, Inc. might be one of Florida’s smaller venues, but you wouldn’t know from its flurry of activity. Earlier this year, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) joined the Center’s active schedule, and this outreach opportunity is being recognized with a PSC Helping Hand award.

“It’s important for Florida’s rural senior community to know about current utility issues,”  said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “The PSC appreciates the Gadsden County Senior Center in Quincy for inviting us to help their clients learn about utility assistance programs, fraud prevention, and ways to manage utility bills.”

Each quarter, the PSC highlights a partner agency or organization whose clients are eligible for the federal Lifeline Assistance telephone/broadband discount program or need help reducing energy and water bills. Through these PSC Helping Hand partnerships, the Commission shares information to help consumers avoid scams and stretch their resources to meet monthly bills.

“We offer a variety of fun events, classes, and daily activities for our active Gadsden County seniors,” said Jo A. Hart, Executive Director, Gadsden Senior Services, Inc..  “A very important part of our mission is to educate the community to provide seniors and their advocates the tools to make informed decisions. The PSC’s helpful information fits our mission and assisted many of our clients.”
