The Morean Arts Center (MAC) launches a new digital lab which offers students the latest in Apple Mac hardware and Adobe software. The new digital lab comes equipped with seven new iMac Pro desktop computers, giving the MAC the opportunity to offer new classes in digital painting, illustration and design. Adobe InDesign, Photoshop for Photographers and Intro to Web Design are among the first classes to be offered in the new digital lab beginning January 7, 2019, during winter class session 1. Registration is open now.
MAC’s Director of Photography, Beth Reynolds, is excited and honored to be able to get the digital lab back up and running. With the current pace of advancements in technology and the costs associated with the upkeep of equipment, the old digital lab fell behind the times. In addition to keeping the equipment up-to-date, it was also challenging to maintain instructors who were up-to-date and can provide instruction to students at various skill levels—all while keeping the cost of the classes affordable.
Through the kind donation of former board president and long-time supporter, Dick Jacobs, the MAC was able to make the necessary upgrades needed to revamp the digital lab. A photo explorer by passion, Dick Jacobs, released his book on digital photography called Wonderlust in 2015.
“Dick has been dedicated to photography and video for many years. He and his wife Joan are very dedicated to the environment and wanted us to be able to produce videos, art and work with all media to educate and inspire youth.” says Reynolds.
The new digital lab will offer video for all ages, graphics animation and 3D interactive projects. Classes will continue to run on a smaller scale, which helps to facilitate more of an individual experience for each student.
