DNC on Restoration of Voting Rights to Ex-Felons in Florida

Posted on January 8, 2019

DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement after voting rights were restored to over one million former felons who have served their time:

“The foundation of our democracy is stronger today. Thanks to countless activists and organizers, Floridians voted overwhelmingly for the principle of ‘one person, one vote.’ They voted for a measure that says if a person has served their time, they will not be treated as a second-class citizen. Now we need to keep up the fight. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Republicans across the country are doing everything they can to halt measures like this one and perpetuate felony disenfranchisement – but they won’t succeed. Democrats will never stop fighting to expand access to the ballot and  ensure that no one is silenced or sidelined on Election Day.”
