Palm Beach County woman turns $5 into $500,000 playing the $500,000 PAYDAY Scratch-Off game

Posted on January 9, 2019

The Florida Lottery announces that Helen Lucas, 37, of Lantana, claimed a $500,000 top prize from the $500,000 PAYDAY Scratch-Off game at Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee. She purchased her winning ticket from Wawa, located at 3950 South Congress Avenue in Palm Springs.

Lucas says she’s excited to put this money to good use, “I want to put a down payment on a house for me and my family!”

The $5 game, $500,000 PAYDAY, features six top prizes of $500,000 and over $57.9 million in total cash prizes. The game’s overall odds of winning are one-in-4.03.

Scratch-Offs are an important part of the Lottery’s portfolio of games, generating more than $871 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) in FY 2017-18, and comprising approximately 69 percent of ticket sales.
