Yesterday, Senator Gary Farmer (D-Fort Lauderdale) filed SB 372 authorizing smokable medical marijuana in order to bring Florida into compliance with a judge’s ruling that the Legislature’s implementing bill violated the intent of Amendment 2, which was overwhelmingly passed by more than 70% of voters in 2016.
The filing of SB 372 comes on the heels of Governor Ron DeSantis calling on the Legislature to fix their error in banning smokable medical marijuana.
“After two years of defying the will of the people of Florida and violating our state’s Constitution, I would like to commend Governor DeSantis for his willingness to lead on this issue where past administrations have showed a lack of courage,” stated Senator Gary Farmer.
“Nothing is more important than the health and well-being of our citizens. When our voters spoke, they spoke clearly in favor of allowing patients access to the form of medicine that best suits their personal medical needs.
“This legislation will bring us into compliance with the intent of Amendment 2 and finally bring relief to patients who have been needlessly suffering. I look forward to quickly working with Governor DeSantis, President Galvano, and Speaker Oliva to ensure that this critical deficiency in the application of the law that has been failing Florida patients is repaired.”
