Governor Ron DeSantis Highlights Commitment to Innovation in Transportation Infrastructure Listening Tour in Miami

Posted on January 23, 2019

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis visited the construction site of the I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project in Miami to listen to the concerns and suggestions of local officials regarding the transportation needs of the city and the state. Governor DeSantis was accompanied by newly appointed Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Secretary Kevin Thibault, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Mr. A.J. de Moya and others.

“Infrastructure is critical to ensuring the continued growth of our economy and the safety of Floridians,” said Governor DeSantis “This morning we heard from city and county officials who know firsthand the transportation challenges and opportunities throughout South Florida. Our administration is committed to enhancing safety for our motorists, relieving congestion throughout our roadways and a strong embrace of technology and innovation to meet our infrastructure needs.”

“FDOT is prepared to embrace a new age in transportation where technology will enhance our system and address the needs of all our citizens,” said Secretary Thibault. “I am proud to work alongside Governor DeSantis who has a clear, bold vision and strong commitment to transportation infrastructure in our state.”

The I-395/SR 836/I-95 Project is a partnership between the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX), with construction limits on State Road (SR) 836 beginning at NW 17 Avenue and continuing through the SR 836/I-395/I-95 (Midtown) Interchange to the MacArthur Causeway Bridge. The limits on I-95 are from NW 8 Street to NW 29 Street. Construction is expected to be completed in the fall of 2023.
