Florida PSC Directs FIMC Hideaway, Inc. to Meet with Customers to Plan Water Quality Improvements

Posted on February 5, 2019

The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) today directed FIMC Hideaway, Inc. (FIMC) to meet with its customers about the options, costs, and benefits to improve its water quality. FIMC does not currently comply with the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) secondary water quality standards for aesthetic qualities such as odor, taste, and color.

“Meeting secondary water quality standards is the benchmark for utilities’ drinking water systems,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham.  “The PSC, working with DEP, will ensure development of a solution in which FIMC delivers safe, quality, reliable water to its customers.”

In 2018, the PSC determined FIMC’s quality of service to be “marginal” because it did not meet DEP secondary standards for sulfates and total dissolved solids.  Following its mandatory customer meetings, FIMC will report back to the PSC with water quality improvement program options by August 6, 2019.

FIMC is a Class C utility which was granted water and wastewater certificates in 1984 to serve the Hideaway development when Levy County turned jurisdiction over to the PSC in 1983.
