The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is announcing today the postponement of the March 4 starting date to replace a bridge on State Road (S.R.) 33 over the Green Swamp in Lake County.
FDOT’s decision comes after further consultation with its local partners, including Lake County and FDOT’s construction contractor Leware Construction, to explore other means and methods that could offer less disruption. The additional time will allow the team to see if there is another option, other than the total shutdown of traffic at the site of the current bridge during demolition and reconstruction, which would result in a 17-mile detour.
FDOT and Lake County will cooperatively reach out to residents and businesses, as the process evolves. A new construction timetable is being developed. This will be based on how the construction scope is modified. As this process moves forward, FDOT will monitor the status of the current bridge, which was constructed in 1956.
Additional project information can be found on the FDOT’s Central Florida website www.cflroads.com.
The FDOT urges all drivers to stay alert and use caution while driving through or near construction zones throughout the region.
