PSC Shares Scam Awareness and Conservation Tips during National Consumer Protection Week

Posted on March 4, 2019

With the alarming rise in scams, are you wondering how to protect yourself from becoming a victim? Maybe you’re wondering about how to conserve water and energy to help manage your utility bills. The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) can help!

National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) is March 4-10, and the PSC will be sharing helpful scam awareness and conservation tips with consumers in central Florida throughout the week.

“The PSC protects consumers year-round,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham.  “We’re hosting several events during NCPW, but I encourage consumers needing utility-related information or assistance to call the PSC at 800-342-3552 any time of the year!”

Always striving to keep customers informed, the PSC engages consumers through:

  • Awareness/Education

The PSC coordinates or participates in community events to promote energy efficiency, water conservation, and scam prevention education. Each month, we also plan events to promote Lifeline Assistance, a federal program designed to make telecommunications/broadband services more affordable for low-income households.

  • Free Resources

You can find information on hurricane preparedness, state social service agencies, and even a children’s conservation activity book on the PSC’s website. PSC educational brochures may be accessed and printed directly from the website, ordered free online, or requested by mail or phone (800-342-3552).  Consumers can also learn about docketed or emerging utility issues by visiting www.floridapsc.com.

  • Hearings, Meetings, and Workshops

Consumers can learn about the PSC and its proceedings by attending a hearing, meeting, or workshop in Tallahassee, or a customer hearing or meeting held throughout the state. Public customer meetings provide an inclusive process, allowing consumers to share their views with Commissioners. The PSC also live streams all Tallahassee meetings, as well as off-site meetings attended by two or more Commissioners.

During the 21st NCPW, the PSC will make presentations to consumers in Polk and Lake Counties. Presentation locations and times can be found here.
